Concussion Awareness Course for Area Coaches: The Diman Regional administration, athletic department and school committee will sponsor a coach’s clinic to address the issue of sports related concussions Feb. 15, at the school, 251 Stonehaven Rd. The clinic will be presented by Sports Legacy Institute, a non-profit medical research and educational organization dedicated to studying the long term effects of head injuries in sports. They have developed the Coaches Concussion Clinic (3C) training in response to the growing need for more aggressive measures to the end the concussion crisis in sports.

Stamp club: The Fall River Stamp Club will meet Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in the conference room at Stop & Shop, Marianno Bishop Boulevard. The club meets the second Tuesday of every month at this location. All adult stamp collectors from the surrounding communities are welcome. Meetings include discussions on stamps, slide shows and swap sessions. Art classes offered: A six-week series of adult and teen drawing classes will be held Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Union Methodist Church, 600 Highland Ave., starting Jan. 20. The course includes drawing with pencil, charcoal pastel and ink wash and covers a variety of subjects, such as, landscape, still-life and portraits. This program will offer both the beginner and the intermediate student a hands-on course in the basics of drawing techniques. The course fee is $50, which includes supplies.
A six-week session of art classes for children 7- to 12-years-old will be held Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Jan. 31. The course will include drawing, watercolor painting and paper sculpture for the beginner or the intermediate student. A variety of media will be used, such as pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor and ink. The class fee is $50 which includes supplies.
Both courses will be taught by Alan Iveson. Advance registration and payment are required and can be done by calling Iveson, (508) 672-3153.

Transportation for senior citizens: Community Connections offers wheelchair-accessible vans with caring and experienced drivers to transport elderly residents to their medical appointments in Boston and Providence. The service is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for elders who live in Fall River, Swansea, Somerset, Westport and Freetown.
To schedule a ride, call Community Connections, 675-0306, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at least 24 hours ahead of an appointment and ask for JoAnn Beland.
This service is made possible by a grant from Bristol Elder Services Inc. through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, with additional support from Community Connections. To help defray costs, a voluntary and confidential donation of $10 per round trip is requested, but not required. No one will be denied a ride because of inability to donate.

Mobile Health Van: Each month, Southcoast Hospitals Group offers free screenings, including blood pressure, total cholesterol, blood glucose, pregnancy testing, colorectal screening kits and medical referrals through its Mobile Health Van.
Blood drives and screening dates for January in Fall River are as follows: Jan. 6, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Jan. 30, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Charlton Memorial Hospital, 363 Highland Ave. and Jan. 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., The Fitness Challenge, 72 Bank St.

Free health information offered: In recognition of national Cervical Health Awareness Month, HealthFirst Family Care Center, 102 County St., is offering free information on cervical cancer, prevention and Gardasil vaccine every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the month of January.
