Theater performance: The UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company will open its 40th season with its production of The Diary of Anne Frank, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. on the Angus Bailey Jr. Stage on the UMass Dartmouth Main Auditorium, 285 Old Westport Rd., North Dartmouth.
Tickets are $12; $10 for senior citizens, students, faculty, staff and UMD alumni; and $4 for UMass Dartmouth students with a valid ID. Group rates are available. Tickets are available for purchase at UMass Pass, on the ground floor of the UMass Dartmouth Campus Center. Tickets will be on sale at the theater beginning one hour before performances. Quit smoking: A free hypnosis session to quit smoking, sponsored by Southcoast Hypnosis Center and the Health Services of Bristol Community College, will be held tomorrow from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree St.
Decoding Diabetes: Caritas Diabetes Center at Saint Anne’s Hospital, Lifeline Medical and Diabetic Supplies of Swansea and 1480 WSAR radio will sponsor Decoding Diabetes, a health fair for people with diabetes and their families, tomorrow, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Venus de Milo, 75 G.A.R. Highway, Swansea.
The health fair will feature exhibits and demonstrations by diabetes product manufacturers, informational booths featuring local medical professionals, hourly presentations by medical experts , area resources , diabetes-friendly hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Venus de Milo and Saint Anne’s Hospital registered dietitians, Portuguese-speaking physicians, nurses and health professionals and a live broadcast by 1480 WSAR.

Lions Club meeting: The Seekonk Lions Club will meet Thursday at the Ramada Inn, 940 Fall River Ave., at 7 p.m. Dr. Stephen Cary will speak about periodontal disease and its effects on general health. Garden Club program: Somerset Garden Club will hold a program on arbor care at the American Legion Hall, Roosevelt Avenue, tomorrow at 7 p.m. The evening’s speakers will be Carol Brodeur and Dave Demoulin, owners of Ropes and Saddles Arborcare. A $3 guest fee is required.
At Somerset Library: Somerset resident and Fulbright Scholar Timothy Belt will tell of his experiences while visiting China in a program entitled New China, Old River, Thursday at 7 p.m. in Somerset Public Library’s meeting room, 1464 County St. The program is free and refreshments will be served.
Baby-sitting class: Women & Infants’ Center for Health Education, 2200 G.A.R. Highway, is offering two baby-sitting academies for those who are at least age 11on Saturday and Nov. 25. The fee is $50. Call (508) 730-1010 to register. Payment can be made over the phone by credit card.
