Fall Family Festival: Greenlock Therapeutic Riding Center, 59 Summer St., in Rehoboth, will hold its annual fall family festival to benefit the center’s therapeutic riding programs for the disabled, Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
The festival will highlight a horse show featuring Greenlock riders, a used tack sale, raffles for cash prizes, games, art activities, face painting for children, horse and dog demonstrations, a silent auction featuring donations from local businesses, and a Greenlock Art Gallery featuring local artists and crafts people. Refreshments will be available through the festival.

Softball tournament: The 2008 Phillip Rocha Memorial Softball Tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at O’Neil Field, in Somerset, and Kennedy Park, in Fall River.
The annual slow pitch tournament raises money for Hospice & Palliative Care, a program of the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Massachusetts and will help provide care for terminally ill patients and their families.

Vrabel to speak: New England Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel will be the featured speaker at the annual St. Mary’s Education Fund Fall Dinner to be held Tuesday at White’s of Westport, 66 State Rd., Westport.
Proceeds from the event support St. Mary’s Education Fund, which provides scholarships to students at Catholic elementary and middle schools in the Fall River Diocese.
Vrabel is cofounder of the 2nd & 7 Foundation, whose purpose is to promote literacy with a particular focus on influencing children to read. The dinner begins with a 5:30 reception and will include, in addition to Vrabel’s talk, a video snapshot of Catholic schools, student entertainment and a multi-course meal.

Fall River
Opera program: The South Coast Opera Club will hold a program Sunday at 2:30 p.m., at First Congregational Church, at Rock and Cherry Streets, in Fellowship Hall. Those attending are asked to use the Cherry Street door.
John Moriarty, of Fall River and Central City, Colo., a teacher, pianist and conductor, will hold a master class with three UMass Dartmouth vocal students. The program is free. Refreshments will be served.
Audition notice: The Little Theatre of Fall River, Inc. will hold auditions for The Spitfire Grill, music and book by James Valcq; lyrics and book by Fred Alley, Oct. 21 and Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m., in The Firebarn, at Prospect Street and Highland Avenue. Auditions will include songs and readings from the show.
Production dates are Jan. 22-24, 29-31 at 8 p.m.; Jan. 25 and Feb. 1at 2 p.m., in The Firebarn.

Harvest Festival: Blessed Trinity’s harvest festival will be held Oct. 17 from 3 to 7 p.m., and Oct. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 1340 Plymouth Ave.
The festival will feature homemade Polish food, an American kitchen, a sweet shop and homemade goodies. Dine-in or take-out service is available. Proceeds will benefit Blessed Trinity Parish.

Rehoboth
Grant deadline approaching: Rehoboth Cultural Council has a Wednesday deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.
The grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Rehoboth including exhibits, festivals, short-term artist residencies or performances in schools, workshops and lectures.
The Rehoboth Cultural Council will also entertain fundraising proposals, from schools and youth groups through the PASS program, a ticket subsidy program for school aged children.

Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club meets: The Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club will meet Oct. 16 at 1:30 p.m. the Rehoboth Senior Center, 55 Bay State Rd. The club meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month.
The club’s upcoming events include its annual Christmas bazaar to be held Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will highlight numerous raffles, baked goods, Christmas items, jewelry, and a white elephant table, also doughnuts, sandwiches and refreshments.
A Christmas party will be held at the Venus DeMilo, in Swansea, Dec. 10 with a luncheon. Selections include chicken francaise or baked scrod. The event’s featured entertainment will be Bobby Justin. The cost is $11 for active members and $18 for all others.
Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club will hold its annual “Afternoon of Nostalgia.” The event will feature a luncheon of either oven roasted chicken or baked scrod followed by entertainment by Ronnie Sands & Co. The price is $11 for active members and $18 for all others. For tickets, call 761-5087.
A three-day trip to Atlantic City has been planned for Jan. 11 to 13. The cost is $145 per person double occupancy. The trip includes round trip bus transportation on Bloom Bus Lines, drivers tip included, two nights lodging at the Tropicana Resort & Casino, a $20 bonus on arrival, two free buffet dinners, a $15 food credit and a free show. Somerset
Grant deadline: The Somerset Cultural Council announced that grant applications for 2009 are being accepted through Wednesday for funding of arts and cultural programs designed to enhance the availability of culturally related programs for Somerset residents. The Cultural Council distributes funds that have been allocated by the State of Massachusetts for the promotion of the arts in the community.

At the library: Somerset Public Library will host pianist Richard Hughes on silent movie night Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the library, 1464 County St.
Those attending will see Thomas Edison’s early films when the motion picture camera was first invented and will also see D.W. Griffith’s melodrama The Girl and Her Trust and Buster Keaton’s comedy The Scarecrow.
Refreshments will be served, including movie popcorn. Tickets are required, but are free. Those who are interested in attending can pick tickets up at the library’s front desk. For more information, call the library at 646-2829.
