Audition notice: Sine Nomine Choir will be holding auditions at St. Mary’s Cathedral, at Second and Spring Streets, in Fall River, Monday at 7 p.m., for all voices for the 2008-2009 season. Singers from Massachusetts and Rhode Island are welcome to audition.

Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and English Renaissance works are programmed.

Retirees meet: The Retired Employees of Charlton Memorial Hospital will hold its membership meeting Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Charlton Memorial Hospital’s Daniel L. Mooney Assembly Room, 363 Highland Ave., in Fall River. All Charlton Memorial Hospital retirees are welcome.

Health van schedule: Southcoast Health Van will conduct health screenings Saturday at Bay Community Baptist Church, 169 Ocean Grove Ave., in Swansea, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the Lloyd Center: A Kayak Tour will be offered Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., at Lloyd Center Headquarters, 430 Potomska Rd., in Dartmouth. Paddlers of all abilities are welcome.

Participants will meet at the center’s main building. The cost is $36 for Lloyd Center members and $45 for nonmembers. Registration is required by Sept. 11. All equipment will be provided. Matters of the Heart: Cardiac physicians from Rhode Island Hospital will hold a free community education program on heart attack topics Tuesday from 6 to 8:15 p.m. at Venus de Milo, 75 Grand Army Highway, in Swansea.

The event’s first 45 minutes will include free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, peripheral artery disease, body fat analysis and stroke risk assessment. The second half of the event will feature talks by Rhode Island Hospital physicians. The program will also include an exercise demonstration, heart-healthy refreshments and prize drawings.

Fall River

Summer soiree fundraiser: The Preservation Society of Fall River will hold its summer soirée annual fundraiser Saturday from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at New Boston Bakery, New Boston Road. The raindate is Sunday.

The Soiree will include a live auction, hors d’ouvres, open wine bar, and music provided by Stephen Breese. Recipients of this year’s Certificate of Recognition Award will be announced.

This year’s auction items include donations from local merchants including People’s Warehouse, Daou’s Market, Commonwealth Soap and Toiletries and Sam’s Bakery, and from local artisans including Tiffany Peay Jewelry, Victoria Mathieson, Patrice Cloutier Clothing Design, and Jeff Carpenter.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the bakery or by contacting the Society at 673- 4841. Stamp Club meets: The Fall River Stamp Club will meet in the Super Stop & Shop conference room, Marianno Bishop Boulevard, at 7 p.m. The club meets the second Tuesday of each month and is open to all adult stamp collectors from beginners to experts.

Rehoboth

Senior Citizens Club meets: Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club will meet today at 1:30 p.m. in Rehoboth Senior Center, 55 Bay State Rd.

Currently the club has several trips on its agenda. Two that are coming up soon are its trip to Atlantic City scheduled for Sept. 28 through 30. The price is $250 per person double occupancy. And a trip to Foxwoods is planned for Oct. 21. The cost is $19. Those who are interested in any of the trips, or for more information, are asked to call 761-5087.

Seekonk

Seekonk Human Services: Aerobics classes will resume Tuesday, at Seekonk Human Services, 320 Pleasant St., from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $3 per class. The first class is free. Classes are held every Tuesday and Thursday and are open to all ages. Sign up is not required.

At the library: Emily Neill, author of Closet Smarts, will speak at the Seekonk Public Library, 410 Newman Ave., Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Neill will talk about the best way to dress your body type in real terms with the clothes you already have. Hear about the making of her book, Closet Smarts, which features 10 local women, and get styled on the spot. Those attending are invited to bring their toughest fashion questions and get some real answers.

Seekonk Public Library will be offering computer classes to SAILS library cardholders.

Classes offered in September include: Sept. 10, Searching for Better Health, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.; Sept. 13, Word I: the Basics, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; Sept. 16, E-Mail I: The Basics, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Sept. 18, Internet III: The Invisible Web, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; Sept. 20, Online Books, from 9:30 to 11 a.m.; and Sept. 24, Blogging 101, from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Registration is required. The classes are open to either Massachusetts residents with a SAILS library card or Rhode Island residents with a Seekonk Public Library card. Call the Adult Services Department to register.

Somerset

Evening School: Somerset Community Evening School’s high school diploma program will begin Monday. Classes are held Monday through Friday at Somerset High School, 270 Grandview Ave.

Those who have recently left high school, or any adult who may be interested in getting their high school diploma can contact the Community School Office at 324-3146 for more information.

At the Council on Aging: Low impact aerobics classes will resume Tuesday at Somerset Council on Aging, 115 Wood St. For more information, call or stop by the Council on Aging.

Swansea

Neighborhood Days: The Friends of the Bluffs Ocean Grove Neighborhood Association Inc. will hold its Ocean Grove Neighborhood Days this weekend.

The event’s flea market will be held Saturday while yard sales will be held both Saturday and Sunday.

In the event of inclement weather, the flea market will be canceled and refunds will be issued to all who had reserved a space.

Westport

Used Book Sale: The Friends of the Westport Library will hold its annual used book sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Westport Public Library, 408 Old County Rd.

The sale continues on the honor system during regular library hours from Monday to Sept. 13. Hours are Monday and Thursday from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
