Seekonk
Saints meet: The Senior Saints of St. Mary’s Church will hold its first meeting of the Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church Hall, Coyle Avenue.
The group’s president Bill Lyons will preside and plans for the coming year will be outlined. The meeting will include an ice cream social. The donation is $1. Members who bring a person who joins the club, or those who join up, will receive a free sundae at the meeting. Annual dues are $6 and are payable at this time. New members are welcome. Entertainment will be provided by Dave Valerio, vocalist and keyboardist, and those who want to can do line dancing. October meeting luncheon tickets will be on sale for $10.
The Saints’ meeting schedule will be: Oct. 7, a chicken pot pie luncheon and bingo; Nov. 4, a turkey dinner and a pound auction; and Dec. 2, a Christmas party with entertainment by Dave Valerio.
The group welcomes back its honorary member Rev. Rita, who, with Claire Cinq-Mars, was one of the organizers forming St. Mary’s Senior Saints Club in 1991.
The group has several events scheduled for the upcoming year which include a Sept. 20 spaghetti and meatball supper at First Congregational Church, in North Attleboro. The Red Hatters’ Fashion Show at the Venus de Milo is scheduled for Oct. 1. An Oktoberfest luncheon and show at the Venus de Milo is slated for Oct. 15. Tickets are $42. A turkey supper at First Congregational Church, in North Attleboro, will be held Oct. 18. The Silver Sizzle Review has been scheduled for Nov. 12 at the Holiday Inn, in Boxborough. Tickets are $61. A two-day trip to New York has been set for Nov. 30 to Dec. 1. The group will be seeing Holiday Magic in the City at Radio City. The group will travel to Leominster for a New Year’s party at Sheraton Four Points Dec. 31 and Jan. 1
Benefit sports night: The Kiwanis of Greater Seekonk will sponsor a “Sports Night” Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Johnson & Wales Inn, Route 44. The event will include a 50/50 raffle for a chance to win $2,500. There will also be an auction of tickets and box seats for Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, Pawsox, Seekonk Speedway and other major sports as well as sports memorabilia including golf packages for four for Ledgemont, Crestwood and Pawtucket Country Club. Former Red Sox player Ken Ryan will be featured at a Sports Talk roundtable. Donations of additional sports items for the auction are still being accepted and sports personalities are also welcome to participate.
Tickets are $20 per person, which includes a DJ and food and raffle tickets are $5 for a book of six. Proceeds will benefit the Child Care Scholarship Program for preschool children from six months to six years old so that families can work or get further training.
Somerset
Fishing club: The Somerset Progressive Fishing Club will hold its next monthly meeting Tuesday, 139 Seaver Ave., at 7:30 p.m.
The club always meets on the first Tuesday of every month. The club invites anyone interested in joining to attend an upcoming meeting.
Westport
Tadpole Tales: Westport River Watershed Alliance holds its parent and child program Tadpole Tales each week.
Each week will have a different nature focus with new activities. The program includes stories, games and crafts as well as an outdoor walk on a nature trail. This is a series of five week programs that meet every Tuesday at 10 a.m. starting this Tuesday. The cost for each five week session is $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. An adult to accompany the child is included in the program fee.
