At the Council on Aging: Magnolia will perform Cajun music in the tent at the Westport Senior Center, 75 Reed Rd.. Tuesday, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A storyteller will also entertain.
The Council on Aging, suggests that those planning to attend might want to bring their own picnic supper, or else buy hot dogs or other refreshments at the event. Those attending are encouraged to bring folding chairs and insect repellent.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Alumni homecoming weekend: The Westport Homecoming Committee has released the details for its first Annual Westport Alumni Homecoming being held Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
The day will begin with a morning 5K Road Race starting at the rear of the high school and ending at the Holy Ghost Club. A clam boil and barbeque chicken dinner will be held at noon with a free hamburger or hot dog meal for children under age 12 with an accompanying adult. Food will be on sale for attendees not purchasing a meal ticket.
The Kids Craft & Entertainment Tent, sponsored by the Westport Business to Business, will include a moonwalk, face painting, spin art booth, tattoo booth, and arts and crafts. Special guests will include Clifford the Big Red Dog, Blue from Blues Clues and Townie from WestportHappenings.com. The characters will be available for meet and greets. Students from En L’air Dance Studio will be performing Irish step dances at 2:30 and 3 p.m.. DJ David Antunes will playsongs from all class eras.
Some of the raffle prizes include a hot air balloon ride from Hot Air Balloon Adventures, of New Bedford; two half day kayak rentals from Osprey Sea Adventure Kayaks; and his and her fishing poles from Westport Marine. Craft booths will feature handmade jewelry, blankets, stained glass, beaded ornaments, all natural body products, clay pins and magnets, , handbags, belts, , children’ sundresses, hair bows, headbands and other hand crafted items. The Vendor booths will include chair massages by The Comfort of Touch; Dr. Camilla Moore, of Westport Chiropractic; Westport Business to Business, Westport Historical Society, Westport Council on Aging, Westport River Watershed Alliance, Arbonne, Avon, Simply Fun, Uppercase Living, Usborne Books, and Tastefully Simple.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Westport Hight School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund and Westport High School Athletic Boosters Fund. Everyone who brings a canned good to the event will get a free raffle ticket for the silent raffle. All goods will be donated to the Senior Center to help restock their pantry before the cold weather arrives.
