Volunteers needed: The Friends of Spindle City Ballet are looking for volunteers to help with their boutique, concession stand, ushering and more. Spindle City Ballet is at 288 Plymouth Ave. For information, call Yvonne Carter, 536-6073.
At the library: The Friends of the Fall River Public Library will hold “Lizzie Borden in Cyberspace,” a program by Prof. Stefani Koorey, of Valencia Community College, Orlando, Fla., in Fall River Public Library’s main library meeting room, 104 North Main St., tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

Grant awarded: The Fall River YMCA will receive an Even Start grant from the state Department of Education. The grant of $242,000 will be used to continue the Fall River family literacy program. The Department of Education was able to support 22 Even Start programs in 2007 but due to federal budget cuts, only 4 will be funded for next year.
Meat pie dinner: A meat pie dinner will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. in Somerset United Methodist Church, 841 Read St.
On the menu will be mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, rolls, dessert and a beverage. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call 674-3082 or 679-0853 for reservations.
School registration: Registration for new students entering Joseph Case High School will be tomorrow and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at the high school, 70 School St.
Counselors will be available at this time. Registrants need to bring a utility or property tax bill showing resident’s name, entering student’s birth certificate, transcript from previous school and medical records.
