01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 8, 2008
FALL RIVER –– Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and HUB International New England yesterday presented local firefighters with a grant package of $10,787 to buy equipment, according to a news release.
The grant will pay for 800 feet of new fire hose, tool kits for responses to emergencies, eight new computers (without monitors) and new batteries for the Fire Department’s portable radios. The computers will aid in typing up incident reports.
Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company funds a nationwide program called Fireman’s Fund Heritage, which allows for grants such as this to be awarded. According to the news release, the fund has issued more than 1,000 grants –– approximately $18 million for equipment, training or tools.
Mayor Robert Correia and executives from HUB International and Fireman’s Fund were present at the station to award the grant package.
President for HUB International New England, John Feitelberg, said yesterday, “Realizing the department has critical needs, this is a token of our appreciation to these firefighters who put themselves on the line everyday saving lives,” according to the news release.
