Fall River
Nutrition services: A variety of nutrition services provided by registered dietitians from St. Anne’s Hospital is available for patients at Internal Medicine and Cardiology Associates of Southeastern New England, 1565 North Main St.
Services include diabetes care with certified diabetes educator Laurie Hammontree, of the Caritas Diabetes Center at St. Anne’s Hospital; weight management; and issues related to cardiac health including coronary artery disease and hypertension. Dietitians are also available for consultation on other conditions, including Crohn’s disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, lactose intolerance and food allergies.
Registered dietitians from St. Anne’s are on site weekly to provide evaluation and follow-up appointments. Nutrition services at Internal Medicine and Cardiology Associates are available via referral from any Internal Medicine and Cardiology Associates primary care physician or physician specialist, including those at its Fall River location and at Westport Family Medicine Center. Services are reimbursed by most health insurance plans for those with medical needs.
St. Anne’s Hospital Nutrition Services also provides a spectrum of adult and pediatric services to hospital inpatients, and on an outpatient basis through the hospital’s Fernandes Center for Children & Families. Specialized children’s services at the Fernandes Center include those related to growth or obesity. Grants received: Diabetes Association Inc. received a $2,200 community grant from the Rotary Club of Fall River. The grant will help offset the cost of transportation for children to attend Camp Kyle T. Woodruff for Children with Diabetes.
Diabetes Association Inc. recently received a $3,000 grant from the Billy Andrade-Brad Faxon Charities for Children. The grant will support the association’s Junior Counselor program at Camp Kyle T. Woodruff for Children with Diabetes.
Swansea
Donation: Impressions donated $500 to Swansea Wood School in recognition of its generosity to the community. Swansea Wood School is a small nonprofit residential school for troubled adolescents, most with limited contact of family or visiting resources.
Westport
Calendar submissions: The Westport River Watershed Alliance is planning the 2009 watershed calendar. To submit an image, send color digital images of nature in the watershed to Westport River Watershed Alliance. Pictures should be submitted as JPGs. Certain image criteria must be met in order for the image to be used in the calendar. Image size should be no smaller than 10 inches by 8 inches; pixel dimensions 3,000 x 2,400. Image resolution should be 300 dpi or greater. The deadline for images submission is June 1. Each image should be given a title by the artist. Name the image file to match the image title. The artist should also include their name, so that they can be credited in the calendar. Email images to water@wrwa.com or if submitting multiple images put them on a CD and send it to the WRWA office, 1151 Main Rd., Westport, or mail to WRWA, P.O. Box 3427, Westport, MA 02790. Council on Aging: The Senior Social Day Program, at Westport Senior Center, provides a caring environment for participants who need a little supervision and for others who come just for the socialization. All enjoy a variety of activities.
