TOMORROW

PORK PIE SUPPER: The Somerset Baptist Church will host a pork pie supper at 6 p.m. tomorrow, at the church, 363 High St.

The menu will include pork pies donated by Hartley's Original Pork Pies of Somerset, mashed potatoes, carrots and homemade desserts.

PLANT SALE: The Rehoboth Garden Club will hold a plant sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, in the clambake shed behind Goff Memorial Hall, Bay State Road.

A large variety of perennials and annuals will be offered. Proceeds from the sale will be used for local environmental projects and scholarships.

OPEN HOUSE: The New England Christian Academy, 271 Sharps Lot Rd., Swansea, will hold an open house from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. tomorrow.

The school is open to pre-kindergartners through twelfth graders.

SENIOR FUNDRAISER: The Friends of Rehoboth's Elderly will hold a yard sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow, and the rain date will be Sunday, at the Gladys L. Hurrell Senior Center, 55 Bay State Rd. (Route 118).

WELLNESS DAY: Swansea Mall, Swansea Mall Drive, will hold a Parents and Kids Wellness Day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Among the exhibitors will be Healthtrax of East Providence, Swansea Ambulance, Sears Fitness Equipment and Wildtree Herbs.

The event will also feature Radio Disney from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and a demonstration by Semper Fi Tae Kwon Do from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

WHALEBOAT RACES: High school crews from southeastern Massachusetts will compete in the annual New England Youth Whaleboat Challenge from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pope's Island Marina, New Bedford Harbor. The race, originally scheduled for last Saturday, was canceled because of the gale force winds.

Teams vying for the New Bedford Cup include crews from Fairhaven High School, New Bedford Vocational Technical High School and St. Vincent's Home, Westport.

Spectators interested in cheering on the crews are asked to contact Whaling City Rowing at (508) 997-4393 to inquire about the best viewing spots.

SUNDAY

AUTHOR TO SPEAK: The Seekonk Library Trust will host novelist Ann Hood at 5 p.m. Sunday, at Leonards, 600 Taunton Ave., Seekonk.

The author will give a short reading from her newest book, An Ornithologist's View of Life, and will be available to talk with those in attendance. A $500 door prize gift certificate to Leonards will also be given away.

DOG WALK: The sixth annual Dog Walk and Pet Fest will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, in Buttonwood Park, Hawthorn Street, New Bedford. Registration for the 2-mile walk will begin at 11.

The Pet Fest will include animal rescue booths, pet health information, demonstrations, contests, music and refreshments.

This year's event will also feature Carbiner's "Ivory Tower," a 42-foot outdoor climbing wall.

OPERA CLUB: The South Coast Opera Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at the First Congregational Church, Rock and Cherry streets, Fall River.

Prof. Guilio Massano of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will review Verdi's opera, Don Carlo.

ZOO MOON: The Capron Park Zoo, 201 County St., Attleboro, will offer a program for families called Zoo Moon from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20.

Participants will walk along candle-lit paths to enjoy the zoo in the evening. There will be stories, crafts and animal encounters.

The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 12. No registration is necessary.

PLANT SALE: The Somerset Garden Club will hold a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, on the grounds of Somerset Town Hall, corner of County (Route 138) and Wood streets.

Items for sale include well-established herbs, flowers and shrubs that were grown by club members.

Proceeds will go to the Garden Club's Scholarship Fund.

CONCERT RESCHEDULED: The South Coast Chamber Music Society will present its concert of music for piano trio at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Grace Church, 133 School St., New Bedford. A post-concert reception will follow.

The program will include the First Piano Trio by 13-year-old Richard Strauss, and the First Piano Trio of an older Felix Mendelssohn. The program will conclude with the Dumky Piano Trio in E minor by Antonin Dvorak.

Tickets may be purchased on the day of the concert and are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and $8 for students. Children younger than 12 are admitted for free.

BENEFIT PERFORMANCE: The Attleboro Area Council of Churches will host Chrys Alam in Brides, Bells and Bull Mastiffs, Pages from the Diary of a Wedding Singer, at 7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of LaSalette, 947 Park St., Attleboro.

The performance is directed by John O'Neil with musical arrangements and accompaniment by Jim Rice.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

All proceeds will benefit the homeless of the greater Attleboro area.

BEACH CLEANUP DAY: The Friends of the Bluffs Ocean Grove Neighborhood Association will hold a beach cleanup day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the town beach in Swansea. The rain date is Sunday, May 22. The event will also offer complimentary coffee, doughnuts, hot dogs, pizza and soda.

Volunteers are asked to bring a rake, pitch fork or shovel. Cotton gloves will be available.

BOY SCOUT FUNDRAISER: Boy Scouts of America, Troop 46, of New Bedford, will hold its fifth annual Flight for Forty-Six flying event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at Sandpiper Air, 1529 Airport Rd., in the New Bedford Regional Airport. PLANT SALE: The Friends of the Swansea Public Library will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21, on the front lawn of the library, 69 Main St.

The sale, the library's prime fundraiser, will include perennials, annuals, shrubs, herbs and vegetable plants. Many of the plants are donated by members of the Friends of the Swansea Public Library and local gardeners.

NATURE WALK: The Rehoboth Land Trust's annual nature walk at Great Meadow Hill Farm, 371 Fairview Ave., will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21. Artist and naturalist Lynn Hayden, who also has a certificate in native plant studies from the New England Wildflower Society and landscape architect Adam Latham, will lead the walk. ORGAN BENEFIT CONCERT: St. Mary's Cathedral will hold a pipe organ benefit concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at the church on Spring and Second streets, Fall River.

The concert will include music for brass, cello with vocalists.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN: The Faxon Animal Rescue League will hold certification tests for the canine good citizen program at its 14th annual Walk for the Animals that will be held on Sunday, May 22 at Heritage State Park, Fall River. The cost for testing, that will begin at 9 a.m., is $5. To become a canine good citizen, an award sponsored by the American Kennel Club, any breed of dog must participate in 10 tests to prove its obedience ability. All dogs are welcome to participate but they must have proof of rabies vaccination with them. Dogs must be on a leash with a properly fitted buckle or slip collar, and the owner should bring the dog's brush or comb with them. CHICKEN DINNER: The Dighton Indian Council will hold a barbecue chicken dinner at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at the Dighton Veterans of Foreign Wars, School Street, North Dighton. Take out will also be available.

MOTORCYCLE RUN: The first annual Kruzin for Kidz motorcycle poker run to benefit the pediatric oncology program at St. Anne's Hospital will be held Sunday, May 22.

The 50-mile run will begin at the VFW Hall, 134 Shove St., Tiverton, and end at St. Anne's Medical Center, 1010 South Main St., Fall River. Registration will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with the ride beginning at 11. The fee is $15 per motorcycle and $5 for each additional rider. The rain date will be Sunday, May 29.

ARTS IN THE VILLAGE: The Narragansett Brass Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Goff Memorial Hall, 124 Bay State Rd., Rehoboth in the last concert in the Arts in the Village series. The quintet will perform baroque, classical, ragtime, pops and jazz music. The band, founded in 2002, is led by Robert Franzblau, associate professor of music and director of bands at Rhode Island College. The Arts in the Village concert series is sponsored by the Rehoboth Antiquarian Society and is supported in part by a grant from the Rehoboth Cultural Council.

WALKATHON: The Fall River Richelieu Club will sponsor a 6-kilometer walkathon to benefit Leukemia and related blood disease research and treatment.

The walkathon will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, from in front of St. Anne's Church, 818 Middle St., near the memorial monument of war veterans. The walk will continue around the perimeter of Kennedy Park for five laps.

BLESSING RESCHEDULED:20The seventh annual Blessing of the Bikes has been rescheduled to Sunday, June 5.

Bikers should meet at noon in the lot at Fort Phoenix State Beach, Green Street, Fairhaven, before proceeding for the blessing at St. Joseph Church, Spring Street.

The event will also feature a two-hour ride on the back roads of Bristol County and a party at Knuckleheads, 85 Macarthur Drive, New Bedford.

The requested donation is $10 a bike.

RIVER RUN: The Westport River Watershed Alliance will host its second River Run canoe and kayak race on Saturday, June 11. Registration will be by mail or from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. the day of the race. The race begins at the Hix Bridge Landing, Hix Bridge Road, Westport.

The race is open to single kayaks, double kayaks and canoes. Participants will have the option of competing in one of two courses, a 3.5-mile family fun course or a 8.5-mile challenge course.

The entry fee is $15 per boat for members and $20 for others. The registration fee includes water, snack and a T-shirt. Food will be available after the race.

BENEFIT CONCERT: "The Experiment" Benefit Concert will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, June 24, at White's of Westport.

All proceeds will be donated to the Sponsor A Child Program, which provides underprivileged children the opportunity of pursuing a dream of art or music.

The proceeds will be divided between the Fall River Art Association and the Rick's Music World Educational Fund and will pay for instrument rentals, art supplies, and professional lessons.
