REGIONAL

ART CONTEST WINNERS: The Greater Fall River Art Association has announced the local winners of its recent Future Perfect Exhibition for high school students.

Grade 12 -- Aaron Costa of Somerset High School, second place; and Erica Pollard of Case High School, Swansea, honorable mention.

Grade 11 -- Jamie Flynn of Bishop Connolly High School, Fall River, second place.

Grade 10 -- Charlotte MacDonnell of Case High School, Swansea, first place; Lauren Correia of Case High School, second place; and Cynthia Chang of Bishop Connolly High School, Fall River, honorable mention.

Grade 9 -- Shayna Costa of Case High School, Swansea, second place; and Julia Mullins of Somerset High School, third place.

TREASURE SHIP TRAGEDY: The Old Colony Historical Society, 66 Church Green, will host guest Capt. Joseph Amaral in an illustrated lecture, A Treasure Ship Tragedy, at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17.

Capt. Amaral will discuss the recovery of the ship L'Auguste de Bordeaux that sank near the coast of Nova Scotia in 1761. The illustrated lecture will feature slides of silver and gold coins, weaponry, ship parts and personal objects.

MISS TEEN MASSACHUSETTS: Applications are now being accepted from contestents interested in competing in the Massachusetts Outstanding Teen and Massachusetts Outstanding Pre-Teen title for 2005. The winner will have the opportunity to compete in a national pageant.

Contestants will compete in evening wear, on-stage questions, interview, talent and swimsuit categories for prizes that will include a scholarship savings bond, crown, trophy and banner. Additional awards will recognize community service, scholastic and academic achievement. All contestants will receive a Massachusetts Outstanding Teen T-Shirt.

The Massachusetts Outstanding Teen Pageant is open to teenagers 14 to 16 from throughout the state. Girls ages 11 to 12 will compete to become Massachusetts Outstanding Pre-Teen.

The deadline for entries is April 1.

The pageant will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 1, in the Bristol Community College auditorium, Elsbree Street. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door.

ATTLEBORO

GUEST RABBI: Rabbi Shawn Zevit, director of Outreach for the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation will be the guest speaker at the 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 26, Shabbat Service at Congregation Agudas Achim, 901 North Main St.

The rabbi will share some of the new traditions of the Reconstructionist movement and discuss the emerging religious practices of Reconstructionists.

HOLY WEEK SERVICES: The National Shrine of Our Lady of LaSalette, 947 Park St., will hold the following Holy Week services:

Palm Sunday liturgies will be celebrated at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 19, and at 12:10 p.m. Sunday, March 20.

The annual Ecumenical Noontime Holy Week Services will be held at noon in the Shrine Church from Monday, March 21, to Friday, March 25. Luncheon will follow in the Shrine cafeteria. There will be no 12:10 p.m. Mass during the week.

Holy Thursday, March 24 -- The celebration of the Lord's Supper will take place in the Shrine church at 7 p.m. and will be followed by adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until midnight.

Good Friday, March 25 -- 10 a.m. Camino De La Cruz -- Spanish Way of the Cross will be celebrated at the Outdoor Stations of the Cross.

1:30 p.m. Via Sacra, the Portuguese Way of the Cross will be celebrated at the Outdoor Stations of the Cross.

3 p.m. The English Way of the cross will be celebrated.

7 p.m. A Solemn Celebration of the Lord's Passion and Death will be celebrated in the Shrine Church.

Holy Saturday, March 26 -- The Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 7 p.m. in the Shrine Church.

Easter Sunday, March 27 -- A Sunrise Service will be held at 5:30 a.m. in the Outdoor Tomb followed by Mass in the Shrine church.

The Easter Mass will be celebrated at 12:10 in the Shrine church.

Confessions for Holy Week will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Palm Sunday and from 2 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Monday to Wednesday. There will not be confessions on March 24 to 27.

The gift shop will be closed on Easter Sunday.

FALL RIVER

SPRING CONCERT: The Prince Henry Society of Fall River will hold its annual spring concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Bristol Community College, 777 Elsbree St.

All proceeds will benefit the organization's scholarship fund.

The event will begin with an ensemble of swing music performed by the Compaq Band, followed by a reception and silent auction.

Tickets are $35 and may be purchased by calling Vangy Oliveira Auclair at (508) 222-1873.

SEMINAR ON VIOLENCE:20The Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses will host a seminar called Violence and Abuse, Identification, Intervention, Prevention and Resources from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 9.

The seminar will enable health-care workers to make better assessments of their patients and know the community services available for children, families and the elderly.

The deadline to register is Wednesday, March 20. Lunch and CEU's will be provided for the $40 fee.

EDUCATION SERIES: The Corrigan Mental Health Center, 49 Hillside St., will host an eight-week Family Education Series, open to family members or friends of people with mental illness, students and health-care providers. The series will be held at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning with Dawn DePasquale speaking on Suicide: Across the Life Spectrum on Wednesday. A question-and-answer period and refreshments will follow.

SOMERSET

FOXWOODS TRIP: The Somerset Recreation Department will host a day trip to Foxwoods Resort Casino on Saturday, April 2.

The bus will leave the Town Hall, 140 Wood St., at 8 a.m. and leave Foxwoods for the return trip at 4 p.m.

The $15 cost includes a $10 meal voucher and three $5 keno vouchers.
