CALENDAR
PLANT SALE: The Dighton Historical Society will hold a textile exhibit and plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1217 Williams St.
The exhibit will feature quilts, samplers and laces from the late 1700s and later. A weaving demonstration will also take place.
The event will also feature the sale of vegetable and flower plants maps and historical books.
5K RUN: The Rehoboth Police FOP Lodge 10 will host a 5K walk/run at 9 a.m. Saturday, beginning at Redway Plain, Route 44. Registration starts at 8 a.m.
The entry fee is $17 before Friday and $20 after that date. T-shirts will be given to all registered participants.
Make checks or money orders (no cash) payable to the Rehoboth Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 10 and mail to the Rehoboth Police Department, P.O. Box 632 Rehoboth 02769. Name, age, gender, phone number, address, city, state, zip code and shirt size will be required to register. Parents or guardians must sign for children under 18.
HAM AND BEAN SUPPER: The Dighton Indian Council will hold a ham and bean supper fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, in Dighton Friendship Hall, 2056 Elm St.
The menu will include ham, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, rolls, dessert and a beverage.

RABIES CLINIC: A rabies clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, at the Rehoboth Highway Department garage, Route 118, across from the police station.
Current rabies certificates, if available, must be presented. All dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in carriers. For more information, call the shelter at (508) 252-5421.
COMMUNITY NOTES
ARTS IN THE VILLAGE: A swing dance with Rory MacLeod and the Bishop's Castle Band, the final event of this year's Rehoboth Antiquarian Society's Arts in the Village series, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Goff Memorial Hall, 124 Bay State Rd. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. Patrons may just come to listen to the band.
Music will be performed by Rhode Island bassist Rory MacLeod and the Bishop's Castle Swing Band. A former member of Roomful of Blues who has performed with the Duke Robillard Band and blues legend B.B. King, MacLeod has been nominated for a Grammy and two WC Handy Blues Awards.
NEW HOURS: The Dighton Public Library, Main Street, will be closed on Saturdays during the summer beginning Saturday, May 29.
The library will resume its Saturday hours on Sept. 11.
CONTRA DANCE: There will be a contra dance at 8 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Goff Memorial Hall, Bay State Road.
All dances will be taught by caller Linda Leslie to the music by Heathen Creek.

RETIREMENT PARTY: The Retirement Committee of the D.L. Beckwith Middle School will hold a retirement party in honor of Jack Egan, Bob Lania, Bill Sankey, Lee Silva and Gene Sullivan at 6:15 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the Venus de Milo Restaurant, GAR Highway, Swansea.
Tickets are $40 per person and include dinner, entertainment and gift.

GARDEN TOUR: The Rehoboth Garden Club will host its house and garden tour, Winding Through Thyme, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 12.
The tour will feature 10 gardens and the first-floor interiors of five local homes. The event will commemorate the club's 70th anniversary
The tour will begin at Tranquil Lake Nursery, 45 River St., where a box lunch will be available to those making reservations by Wednesday, June 9.
Tour tickets are $20 and are available at the Tranquil Lake Nursery, The Secret Garden, Cricket Hill Gift Shop, Past and Present, Country Reflections, Country Thyme Flower and Gift Shop and the Blanding Public Library, all in Rehoboth; at Araujo Farms, Dighton, and at the Seekonk Public Library. SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED: The Rehoboth Garden Club will again offer a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or graduate student from Rehoboth, Seekonk, Dighton, Attleboro, Dartmouth, East Providence or Bristol.
Applicants must have been accepted to an accredited college or graduate school with plans to attend in the fall. They must have a major in natural science, including agricultural sciences, agronomy, botany, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture/design, marine biology, natural resource management, plant sciences or soil and crop sciences.
Students may obtain applications by writing to the Rehoboth Garden Club, 117 Carpenter St., Rehoboth 02769, or by calling (508) 252-6337.
Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, June 1.
NURSERY EVENTS: Tranquil Lake Nursery, 45 River St., will hold the following free gardening workshops will be held on Saturdays in May and June:
Looking at Leaves -- Linear Lines to Round and Ruffled, May 22.
Planting for a Long Season Mixed Border, May 29.
Combining Containers with the Mixed Borders, June 5.
Holly Shimizu, the director of the United States Botanic Garden, will present a workshop, Herbs, Roses, Siberian Iris, Japanese Iris and their June Blooming Companions, on Saturday, June 26.
Tranquil Lake Nursery will hold its 13th annual open house and Summer Garden Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24. This year's theme, Entertaining from the Garden, will feature chefs and workshops on flower arranging, herbs, container gardening, lectures and demonstrations.

ADOPTION OPTIONS: Adoption Options will hold informational meetings for those exploring the possibility of adoptions this fall. SENIOR CITIZENS
Dighton Council on Aging, 300 Lincoln Ave., can be reached at (508) 823-0095. The group is planning the following events:
Exercise classes will be held at 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes are open to men and women. The cost is $2.
Cribbage, chess and pokeno are played at 1 p.m. Wednesdays and whistis played on the first and third Mondays of every month.
Line dancing instruction will again be offered at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Lincoln Village Community Center. The cost is $2. The last class will be held Thursday, May 27. Classes will resume again on Sept. 9.
Rehoboth Council on Aging, 55 Bay State Rd., (508) 252-3372, is planning the following events:
Music on Mondays is held at 1:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month. The council invites seniors to join the group in song and music. The program is free.
Blood pressure checks and glucose screenings are offered each month at no charge. Cholesterol screening is offered quarterly for a $5 fee. The next blood pressure clinic will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, June 2.
The council offers weekly tai chi classesat 9 a.m. on Tuesdays. The cost is $3. To sign up, call the council.
Hearing screenings are offered on the second Tuesday of the month. To make an appointment, call the council. The next screening is June 8.
Line dancing takes place at 10:15 a.m., Tuesdays.
Games, including checkers, scrabble, chess, dominoes, backgammon, and poker, will be played at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays throughout this month and next.
Monthly health clinics are offered at 8:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
The next cholesterol screening will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today. The cost is $5 for Rehoboth seniors and $12 for others. To make an appointment call the senior center.
Gert's Cafe is open for lunch on Mondays.
Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve and clean up Meals on Wheels lunches. Volunteer receptionists are also needed. To sign up, call the Council on Aging at (508) 252-3372.
The next podiatry clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 11. To make an appointment, call the senior center.
The exercise program is held at 3 p.m. Fridays.

Seniors and their grandchildren are invited to a sunday/fun day at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30. Tickets are $3 for families of 4 or $1 for seniors who want ot attend without family. Tickets are available until Tuesday, June 29, at the senior center.
