HERBAL WORKSHOP: Elizabeth Timmins from Herbal Designs, North Dighton, will offer a workshop on growing herbs at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the reading room at the Dighton Public Library, Main Street.

She will discuss several different herbs at each of the sessions.

COMMUNITY NOTES

SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED: The Rehoboth Garden Club will again offer a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or graduate student from Rehoboth, Seekonk, Dighton, Attleboro, Dartmouth, East Providence or Bristol.

Applicants must have been accepted to an accredited college or graduate school and plan to attend such a school in the fall. They must have a major in some phase of natural science, including agricultural sciences, agronomy, botany, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture/design, marine biology, natural resource management, plant sciences or soil and crop sciences.

Students may obtain applications by writing to the Rehoboth Garden Club, 117 Carpenter St., Rehoboth 02769, or by calling (508) 252-6337.

Applications must be submitted by June 1.

NURSERY EVENTS: Tranquil Lake Nursery, 45 River St., will hold the following events.

A Spring Garden Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1. The event will feature workshops, hands-on activities, garden talks and demonstrations. Participants may bring a picnic lunch.

Holly Shimizu, the director of the United States Botanic Garden will present a workshop, Herbs, Roses, Siberian Iris, Japanese Iris and their June Blooming Companions, on Saturday, June 26.

Tranquil Lake Nursery will hold its 13th annual open house and Summer Garden Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 24. This year's theme, Entertaining from the Garden, will feature chefs, and workshops on flower arranging, herbs, container gardening, lectures and demonstrations.

AMBULANCE COMMITTEE: The Rehoboth Ambulance Committee will celebrate its 50 years of volunteer service at an awards dinner and dance at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, May 1, at Ann's Place, Norton.

Plans for the evening include a pictorial history display of the Ambulance Corps.

ADOPTION OPTIONS: Adoption Options will hold informational meetings for those exploring the possibility of adoptions this fall. SENIOR CITIZENS

Dighton Council on Aging, 300 Lincoln Ave., can be reached at (508) 823-0095. The group is planning the following events:

Blood pressure and blood sugar screenings will take place Tuesday, April 20. To make an appointment, call the council. The next blood sugar screening will be held in June.

A wellness clinic is held on the same day as the blood pressure screening. The topic this month will be "Osteoporosis -- What You Need to Know."

Massage therapy and stress relief will be offered at all wellness clinics. Certified reflexologist Karen Tripp will be on hand to demonstrate chair massages, a Japanese accupressure massage of the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands from 9 to 10 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to knit lap robes for nursing home patients and caps and mittens for children. Donations of yarn may also be dropped off at the Council on Aging office in Lincoln Village.

Exercise classes will be held at 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes are open to men and women.

Cribbage, chess and pokeno are played at 1 p.m. Wednesdays and whistis played on the first and third Mondays of every month.

Line dancing instruction will again be offered at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Lincoln Village Community Center. The cost is $2.

SHINE coordinator Lisa Sarkis will be at Lincoln Village at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, to present information on the new Medicare approved Drug Discount Card Program. To register, call (508) 823-0095.Rehoboth Council on Aging, 55 Bay State Rd., (508) 252-3372, is planning the following events:

Music on Mondays is held at 1:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month. The council invites seniors to join the group in song and music. The program is free.

Blood pressure checks and glucose screenings are offered each month at no charge. Cholesterol screening is offered quarterly for a $5 fee.

The council offers weekly tai chi classesat 9 a.m. on Tuesdays. The cost is $3. To sign up, call the council.

Hearing screenings are offered on the second Tuesday of the month. To make an appointment, call the council.

Line dancing takes place at 10:15 a.m., Tuesdays.

Games, including checkers, scrabble, chess, dominoes, backgammon, and poker, will be played at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays throughout this month and next.

Monthly health clinics are offered at 8:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

Gert's Cafe is open for lunch on Mondays.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve and clean up Meals on Wheels lunches. Volunteer receptionists are also needed. To sign up, call the Council on Aging at (508) 252-3372.

The exercise program is held at 3 p.m. Fridays.

T'ai chi classes will be held at 9 a.m. Fridays. The cost is $3 for each class.

Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club, Gladys Hurrell Senior Center, 55 Bay State Rd., has the following events planned:

The Older Americans Banquet sponsored by Friends of Rehoboth's Elderly will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the senior center. The cost for the chicken dinner is $5. Tickets are available at the Council on Aging Office.

Upcoming trips:
