HISTORICAL LECTURE: The Rehoboth Antiquarian Society will host Jan Whitaker, author of Tea at the Blue Lantern Inn, in a lecture at 2 p.m Saturday, at the Carpenter Museum, Bay State Road.
She will explore the history of the early 1900s when women "celebrated independence, artistic expression, and the American spirit -- all with a humble cup of tea." A tea will precede the lecture.
Jan Whitaker is a freelance writer and editor from Northampton. She has been collecting vintage tea-room postcards and menus for the past 15 years.
Tickets are $3 for society members and $5 for others.

SPAGHETTI SUPPER: The Dighton Intertribal Indian Council will hold a benefit spaghetti supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, at the Dighton Community Church Hall, 2056 Elm St. Money raised from the dinner will be used to help pay for the council's upcoming Chief White Wolf Memorial Powwow to be held in October.
The meal will include spaghetti, meatballs, bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Entertainment by the Iron River Singers will feature Native American songs and flute music.

POLLING PLACES: Rehoboth polling places will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Monday, April 5, town election: Precinct I voters will cast their ballots at the Town Office Building, Precinct II voters will cast their ballots at the Gladys L. Hurrell Senior Center and Precinct III voters will cast their ballots at the South Rehoboth Fire Station.
COMMUNITY NOTES
SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED: The Rehoboth Garden Club will again offer a $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior or graduate student from Rehoboth, Seekonk, Dighton, Attleboro, Dartmouth, East Providence or Bristol.
Applicants must have been accepted to an accredited college or graduate school and plan to attend such a school in the fall. They must have a major in some phase of natural science, including agricultural sciences, agronomy, botany, environmental sciences, forestry, horticulture, landscape architecture/design, marine biology, natural resource management, plant sciences or soil and crop sciences.
Students may obtain applications by writing to the Rehoboth Garden Club, 117 Carpenter St., Rehoboth, 02769, or by calling (508) 252-6337.
Applications must be submitted by June 1.
CONTRA DANCE: There will be a contra dance at 9 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Goff Memorial Hall, Bay State Road. All dances will be taught by caller Rick Mohr to the music of Kerry Elkin & Friends. Beginners and singles are welcome. Admission is $6.

FASHION SHOW: The Rehoboth Anawan Lions Club will present its sixth annual fashion show April Showers bring May Flowers beginning with a social hour at noon Sunday, April 25, at the Hillside Country Club, Hillside Avenue.

LOOKING GLASS THEATRE: Looking Glass Theatre, will perform There's Nothing to Read as part of the theatre's Learn to Read -- Read to Learn performance series, sponsored by Target Stores. The performances for children in grades 6 to 8 will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at the Beckwith School and at 11 a.m. at the Palmer River School.
The performances are made possible by a grant from Target Stores.
ADOPTION OPTIONS: Adoption Options will hold informational meetings for those exploring the possibility of adoptions this fall. HERBAL WORKSHOP: Elizabeth Timmins from Herbal Designs, North Dighton, will offer a workshop on growing herbs at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the reading room at the Dighton Public Library, Main Street.
She will discuss several different herbs at each of the sessions.ARTS IN THE VILLAGE: Arts in the Village will host Ann Danis & Friends, in a performance of string ensemble music at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Goff Memorial Hall, Bay State Road.
The evening opens with duets for violin and viola by the Russian Romanticist composer Reinhold Giliere, followed by a trio for violins and viola by Czech composer Anton Dvorak. The second half of the program features a Haydn trio for violins and cello and a string quartet by Mozart. Ann Danis, an acclaimed violinist, violist and conductor of the Fall River Symphony Orchestra, will be joined by violinists Cheri Markward and Christina Dickson, and cellist Megan Winters.

DOG LICENSES: Dog licenses for 2004 are now available. License fees are $10, or $5 for a spayed or neutered dog.
Proof of current rabies vaccination and neutering/spaying is required. Licenses may be purchased at the town clerk's office or through the mail. If by mail, the proper documentation, fee (payable to the Town of Rehoboth), and a self-addressed stamped envelope should be mailed to: Town clerk's office, 148 Peck St., Rehoboth 02769.
SENIOR CITIZENS
Dighton Council on Aging, 300 Lincoln Ave., can be reached at (508) 823-0095. The group is planning the following events:
Blood pressure and blood sugar screenings will take place Tuesday, April 20. To make an appointment, call the council. The next blood sugar screening will be held in June.
A wellness clinic is held on the same day as the blood pressure screening. The topic this month will be "Osteoporosis -- What You Need to Know."
Massage therapy and stress relief will be offered at all wellness clinics. Certified reflexologist Karen Tripp will be on hand to demonstrate chair massages, a Japanese accupressure massage of the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands from 9 to 10 a.m.
The next sojourn bear construction workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday, April 12. The handmade teddy bears will be distributed to cancer patients. People are needed to help sew, cut and stuff the bears. Monetary donations are also appreciated. To sign up for the workshop, call the council.
Volunteers are needed to knit lap robes for nursing home patients and caps and mittens for children. Donations of yarn may also be dropped off at the Council on Aging office in Lincoln Village.
Exercise classes will be held at 9 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Classes are open to men and women.
Cribbage, chess and pokeno are played at 1 p.m. Wednesdays and whistis played on the first and third Mondays of every month.
Line dancing instruction will again be offered at 10 a.m. Thursdays at the Lincoln Village Community Center. The cost is $2.
State Sen. Mark Pacheco or a representative from his office will hold an office hour from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Lincoln Village. Seniors with questions or concerns are urged to visit.
SHINE coordinator Lisa Sarkis will be at Lincoln Village at 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, to present information on the new Medicare approved Drug Discount Card Program. To register, call (508) 823-0095.Rehoboth Council on Aging, 55 Bay State Rd., (508) 252-3372, is planning the following events:
Music on Mondays is held at 1:30 p.m. the first and third Mondays of each month. The council invites seniors to join the group in song and music. The program is free.
Blood pressure checks and glucose screenings are offered each month at no charge. Cholesterol screening is offered quarterly for a $5 fee. The next blood pressure clinic will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 7.
The council offers weekly tai chi classesat 9 a.m. on Tuesdays. The cost is $3. To sign up, call the council.
Hearing screenings are offered on the second Tuesday of the month. To make an appointment, call the council. The next screening is April 7.
Line dancing takes place at 10:15 a.m., Tuesdays.
Games, including checkers, scrabble, chess, dominoes, backgammon, and poker, will be played at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays throughout this month and next.
Monthly health clinics are offered at 8:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
Gert's Cafe is open for lunch on Mondays.
Volunteers are needed to help prepare, serve and clean up Meals on Wheels lunches. Volunteer receptionists are also needed. To sign up, call the Council on Aging at (508) 252-3372.
The next podiatry clinic will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 12. To make an appointment, call the senior center.
The exercise program is held at 3 p.m. Fridays.
Tai chi classes will be held at 9 a.m. Fridays. The cost is $3 for each class.

Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club, Gladys Hurrell Senior Center, 55 Bay State Rd., has the following events planned:

The Older Americans Banquet sponsored by Friends of Rehoboth's Elderly will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the senior center. The cost for the chicken dinner is $5. Tickets are available at the Council on Aging Office.
