Support groups
MS support group: Sturdy Memorial Hospital’s Multiple Sclerosis Center offers a support group for those living with Multiple Sclerosis as well as their caregivers. The group is free and open to the public. The next meeting will be held tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in conference rooms A, B and C at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
Cancer support group: Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket will host a support group for those living with cancer and their caregivers called You are not Alone. The group meets the first and third Wednesday of every month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The next meeting will be held Aug. 6. For more information, call (401) 729-2789.
Prostate support group: Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro will hold a prostate support group meeting, Aug. 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in conference rooms A, B and C. For more information, call the oncology department, (508) 236-7010.
Breastfeeding support group: Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island will host a breastfeeding support group meeting, Aug. 6. Led by a lactation consultant, the group provides breastfeeding support and encouragement for mothers. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Ambulatory Care Center, 89 Pond St., Pawtucket. For more information, call (401) 729-2510.
Moms group: Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro is hosting a new mothers group for women with new babies to nine months. Participants can talk about their growing babies, discuss concerns and expectations, and learn different tips from other mothers. The free program is led by a certified parent educator. The next three-week program will begin Aug. 6 and continue on Aug. 13 and 20. The group meets from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Clinical Education Center located near the main lobby of the hospital. Workshops, classes and seminars
Health education seminar: Prevention Plus will present a health education seminar July 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Italian Working Men’s Club, 947 Diamond Hill Rd., Woonsocket. Some of the topics to be discussed include building your immune system, your ideal weight, fight degenerative disease and increase your energy level. Reservations are required. Prepared childbirth classes: Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket will host a series of two-hour classes preparing expectant parents for their labor and delivery experience. Topics include the physical and emotional preparation for birth, signs and stages of labor. A birth film and a tour of the birthing center is included. Participants are encouraged to bring a support person. The fee is $68 per couple. Community workshop: Community VNA will host a workshop Oh, My Aching Back, Aug. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their offices, 10 Emory St., Attleboro. The program will feature a lecture by Dr. Steven Blazar, to help you understand the pain associated with spinal conditions and treatment options available. Breastfeeding class: Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island will host a breastfeeding class Aug. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. This two-hour discussion is for parents who would like more information on breastfeeding.
