Community Events

Summer gazebo concert series: North Attleboro Cultural Council (NACC) is sponsoring the 2008 Gazebo Concert Series at the gazebo/bandstand in Veterans Park near Town Hall. Concerts will be held on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. until Aug. 26. Food concessions and children’s activities will be available. The NACC will provide free bus transportation to the nostalgic concerts for the elderly from the town’s various senior centers. The schedule is: July 8, Alanna Tonetti-Tieppo (violin) and Big Yello (pop/rock); July 15, Den Santoro (folk/rock); July 22, Contempaissance (flute and guitar); July 29, SOS Big Band (swing); Aug. 5, Bob Chabot (singer); Aug. 12, John Porcino (story and songs for children) and Yankee Notions (N.E. folk); Aug. 19, Bay State Stompers (Dixieland); and Aug. 26, The Taunton City Band (brass band).

Artisans and crafts needed: North Attleborough and Plainville Chamber of Commerce will host its 17th-annual Fall Festival, Sept. 14. The Chamber is seeking artisans and crafters who would like to participate. To request an application, or for information, call Melissa Santsaver at msantsaver@yahoo.com or call (508) 695-6011. The fee is $50 for a 12-foot by 12-foot space. They are also seeking bakers of all ages. The event will feature an apple pie contest for ages 16 and up, and a cooking baking contest for ages 6 to 12. Registration will begin this month and the first 20 applicants will be accepted for each baking contest. The event is being sponsored by Sturdy Memorial Hospital and will be held at Mason Field in North Attleboro.

Club Notes

Texas Instruments Attleboro Retiree Club and Friends has several events and trips planned including:

Board the Horizon’s Edge Casino Cruise, on Aug. 13. The cost is $37 and includes the cruise, entertainment, a buffet luncheon and transportation.

A trip to Foxwoods and Cap ‘n Jack’s is scheduled for Sept. 16. The tour includes a lobster bake at Cap ‘n Jack’s and time at Foxwoods Casino. The cost is $56, and includes player’s choice and $15 Keno play.

Visit the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat on Oct. 17. The cost is $78 and includes lunch at Oliver’s Tavern, train excursion aboard the Essex Steam Train, boat ride on the Essex Riverboat, time at the station museum and gift shop, and transportation.

Visit Venus de Milo, Swansea, Mass., on Nov. 13 from noon to 4 p.m., with a Thanksgiving prelude, featuring the Linda Calise Cabaret. You must provide your own transportation. The cost is $18.

Visit Foxwoods Casino, on Nov. 21. The bus departs at 8 a.m. and returns at 5 p.m.
