Council targeted by candidate’s e-mail
NEWPORT — A candidate who lost a bid for City Council last week sent an e-mail on Wednesday to members of the council-elect in which he calls one “a drunk” and another a “racist” and a “feeble hillbilly.” He also brought up the sexual orientation of a third council member in a critical context.

Oster asks high court to uphold wiretap ruling
LINCOLN — Lawyers for indicted former Town Administrator Jonathan F. Oster have asked the state Supreme Court to uphold a lower court ruling that threw out wiretap evidence against him and ordered prosecutors to provide more details about what information they plan to use at his trial.

In East Greenwich, Town Council member Kim Petti is the winner — for now — of a fifth slot on the council after a count of provisional ballots yesterday gave him a 2-vote edge over former council member Carl Hoyer.

LINCOLN — T. Joseph Almond broke from a crowded pack last night to win a four-way race for town administrator, according to unofficial Town Hall results.
