At-risk youths benefited by fundraiser

Newport’s Goat Island was the setting for Tides at Belle Mer on July 24. Some 250 guests braved stormy weather to raise $50,000 for the nonprofit, which offers services to high-risk youths and their families.
An award was given out to Mike Tamburro of the Pawtucket Red Sox and the late Amby Smith, a longtime sports reporter and columnist for the Kent County Daily Times. Honorary co-chairs were Channel 10’s Lisa Churchville and Warwick Beacon’s John Howell; the co-chairs were businessman and golfing enthusiast Anthony Paliotta and Tom Market’s Tom DeAngelis.
