Newport raises the Jolly Roger
05/22/2008 01:00 AM EDT
Plunder some entertainment. The third annual PirateFest is this weekend in Newport.
There will be treasure hunts and pirate paraphernalia for purchase. There will be pirate-themed harbor cruises and fashion shows. There will be songs and stories and costume contests. If it pertains to pirates, you’ll probably find it at this one-day festival, Saturday, 10 a.m. to about midnight.
The events occur at several sites around downtown Newport, although most take place off America’s Cup Avenue at the Brick Market Place, Bowen’s Wharf, Sayers Wharf and Commercial Wharf. The day begins with a 10 a.m. treasure hunt at Brick Market Place, which costs $2 per treasure map. And it ends with the Buccaneers Ball, which starts at 8 p.m., at the Newport Yachting Center on Commercial Wharf. Tickets are $35 at the door and $25 when purchased in advance: (800) 459-4922.
