Butterflies return to Roger Williams Park Zoo
05/22/2008 01:00 AM EDT
Fly by the zoo.
This weekend Roger Williams Park Zoo opens a new exhibit, “Flutterby: Butterflies in Bloom.” From Saturday through Labor Day you can see 500 butterflies in a 2,100-square foot greenhouse filled with flowering plants that appeal to the delicate flying insects. You can just appreciate what you see, or learn how to create a butterfly-friendly environment in your own yard. On Saturday and Sunday there will also be special activities and demonstrations relating to butterflies.
The zoo is at 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence. It’s open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children, 3-12. Saturday and Sunday’s opening of the butterfly exhibit is a fundraiser for the zoo, and there’s a surcharge: $3 for adults and $2 for children.
