People: Jack White's son to report for Ch. 12; Brinkley's husband says he's 'contrite'
07/26/2006 01:00 AM EDT
Tim White, son of the late Jack White, a former investigative reporter for Channel 12 (WPRI-TV) who died last year at age 63, is picking up where his father left off. Tim White is the new investigative reporter at the station. He starts in September.
For the past decade, White has worked in Boston at WBZ-TV. Most recently he has worked as the station's general manager, during which time it has won two Associated Press awards for breaking news, and also national recognition, the Edward R. Murrow Award, for its coverage of last spring's flooding in New Hampshire.
"This is such a unique opportunity for me . . . to pick up where my father left off and continue with his hard work and dedication to covering the area," White said. "I always felt bad for the person who was going to fill my father's shoes."
In his 37-year journalism career, Jack White won many awards, including a 1974 Pulitzer Prize for reporting that President Nixon paid a pittance in federal income taxes for two consecutive years. White broke the story while a reporter for The Providence Journal, where he worked before taking up television reporting.
Tim White was born in Newport and received his bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Massachusetts. He and his wife, Melissa, are expecting their first child in September.
Scott Adams called his weekend wedding aboard a yacht in the San Francisco Bay "tremendous," but said he doesn't expect to win a dance competition anytime soon.
Adams, 49, creator of the Dilbert comic strip, and Shelly Miles, 37, were married Saturday evening on the Commodore Galaxy yacht by the ship's captain. About 150 guests attended.
It's the first marriage for Adams and the second for Miles. They met at his health club four years ago.
Miles has two children, a 6-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter, and both participated in the ceremony, Adams said.
Christie Brinkley's estranged husband has been silent about recent reports that he had an affair with an 18-year-old employee while married to the supermodel. Now his reportedly desperate apology is receiving a very public airing.
"This is an aberration," Peter Cook, 47, said through a lawyer, according to a column by Cindy Adams published yesterday in the New York Post. "I'm sorry. I'm contrite. I'm stupid. Foolish. No excuse."
Adams wrote that Cook's words were provided to her by his attorney, Norman Sheresky.
According to the report, Sheresky said Cook would respect Brinkley's wishes, whatever the result.
"He hopes there's no divorce. If she wants one, and he certainly hopes this doesn't happen, but if -- it will not be nasty," Sheresky said, according to the Post. "She can have whatever she wants."
