Big names in comedy coming to Newport

The season of comedy has come again, or least it’s fast approaching.
The Newport Summer Comedy Series begins July 4 and runs through Aug. 26 at the Newport Yachting Center off America’s Cup Avenue. Every week there’s a new performer, sometimes two.
Among the biggest names in this year’s lineup are Martin Short, Norm MacDonald and Joy Behar.
Here is the lineup:
July 4 at 7 p.m., Louis CK, who has appeared on HBO and Showtime, and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and The Late Show with David Letterman.
July 12 at 7:30 p.m., Joel McHale, who stars on The Soup on E!
July 18 at 7:30 p.m., Martin Short, a veteran of Saturday Night Live who has appeared in many movies, including The Three Amigos.
July 19 at 7:30 p.m., Craig Shoemaker, known onstage as “The Lovemaster,” who performed in Comic Relief, and Brett Butler, who appeared in the TV series Grace Under Fire. They are the only performance duo of the series.
July 26 at 7:30 p.m., Joy Behar, a host on the TV show The View.
Aug. 1 at 7 p.m., Ron White, who was a member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
Aug. 9 at 5 p.m., “Defending the Caveman,” a solo comedic play performed by one of nine people: Ben Tedder, Isaac Lamb, Paul Perroni, Chris Sullivan, Kevin Burke, Raymond McAnally, Cody Lyman, Michael Van Osch or Vince Valentine.
Aug. 9 at 8 p.m., Tracy Morgan, best known for his performances on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock.
Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m., Carlos Mencia, who hosted his own show on Comedy Central, Mind of Mencia.
Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m., Mike Birbiglia, who has appeared on Comedy Central, The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m., Norm MacDonald, best known for his roles on Saturday Night Live.
Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m., Frank Caliendo, an impersonator who appears on the Fox NFL Pre-Game Show.
