Seize Saturday: Watch old-fashioned baseball in Warwick.
07/05/2008 01:00 AM EDT

Fireworks
The Fourth has passed, but not the fireworks. There are still a few places you can see a show, today and tomorrow.
In Pawtucket, at the end of the PawSox game, there will be fireworks over McCoy Stadium tonight. Also tonight, on Block Island at the Fred Benson Town Beach Pavilion on Corn Neck Road there will be a 7:30 p.m. concert, by the Booze Beggars, followed by fireworks at 9 p.m. And tomorrow on Dewey Field at the Naval Station in Newport, there will be two concerts — Soul Power at 5 p.m., and the Navy Band Northeast at 7 p.m. — and then fireworks at 8:45 p.m.
Old-time baseball
Be a sport. Appreciate the past. Take in some 19th-century baseball. Today at 11 a.m., the Providence Grays play the Olneyville Temperance Cadets in an old-fashioned game, following 1884/1886 rules: batters request pitch placement, and need six balls to get a walk; and fielders don’t use gloves. The game is in Warwick at Porter Field at the corner of Leigh and Wayne Streets. Admission’s free. For more information, visit www.providencegrays.org.
Walk through history
Take a walk. Learn some local history. Today, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Rhode Island Historical Society conducts a walking tour of the Fox Point neighborhood in Providence, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods as well as one of its most ethnically diverse. It’s also the birthplace of the original Yankee Doodle Dandy, George M. Cohan. Participation costs $10. For more information, visit www.rihs.org or call (401) 331-8575.
Family tennis
Take in some tennis. This is Family Weekend at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, 194 Bellevue Ave., Newport. The event is today and tomorrow, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be tours of the museum, crafts and face painting, tennis demonstrations and Wii tennis. There will be tennis skills activities and a fast-serve contest. Beginning at 11 a.m., there will also be qualifying matches for the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, which begin Monday. Admission is $10, $5 for children, $25 for a family of four. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call (401) 849-6053.
