John Brush is the recipient of the tenth annual Philbrick Poetry Award.
Judge poet Forrest Gander selected Brush as the winner for his manuscript Chrysalis, to be published as a chapbook by the Providence Athenaeum. A 2004 graduate of Providence College, Brush earned a master’s degree in English and Writing from Long Island University in 2006. His poetry has appeared in such publications as Genie, Wavelength: Poems in Prose and Verse and VOX.
The award was established to honor Brown University Prof. Charles Philbrick and his wife Deborah by promoting poetry in New England.
Gander, professor of English and Comparative Literature at Brown, and Brush will both read from their work tonight at 7 in the Athenaeum Reading Room, 251 Benefit St., Providence. The event is free and open to the public.
