Filter the air as you vacuum
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, July 20, 2008
A new line of Arm & Hammer accessories claims to transform the common vacuum into a virtual air filter using baking soda particles to neutralize odor-causing mold, bacteria, fungi and pet dander.
The three-tier product system includes a vacuum filter, bags and Fresh-ins scent packs, which are poured into the dust bag or cup for an extra pop of deodorization. With these products, the usual process of pushing and pulling the vacuum over dingy carpets and rugs is now supposed to suck in dirty air, eliminate odor and release fresh air back into the room.
Pet owners will especially like the use of the company’s popular Pet Fresh scent. The fragrance is lighter than the more concentrated formulas normally sprinkled on carpets and left to sit before being vacuumed up. Fresh-ins worked well inside the vacuum bag, eliminating odors and sucking up pet hair with ease.
However, providing filters and vacuum bags only for certain models is a major drawback for some consumers who aspire to use all three products in concert with hopes of getting the cleanliest possible outcome.
The scent packs are sold exclusively at Wal-Mart or online at walmart.com for about $2.50 for a pack of nine. Bags and filters start at $2.75. For more information, go to armhammervac.com.
