Unbeaten Cranston West (4-0) and Mount St. Charles (3-1), the top two teams in Division II-North girls soccer, meet at 3:30 in Woonsocket.
YESTERDAY'S TOP GAME
Central Falls got a goal 5:10 into the game, then played the final 70 minutes a man down but the Warriors posted a 1-0 victory over East Providence in a battle of Division I boys soccer unbeatens.
The Warriors, who have won four straight, got the game's only goal from Romandio Estrella off an assist from Steve Patino. Just less than five minutes later, the Warriors received a red card and played the rest of the game with 10 players. Warriors goalkeeper Brian O'Campo made 16 saves.
BEST OF THE REST
-Cumberland's Amanda Smith and Kelly Connors clinched the match at third doubles with a 6-3, 6-1 win as the Clippers overcame a 3-0 deficit for a 4-3 victory over Westerly in girls tennis. Melissa Benoit and Molly Normandin tied the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win at second doubles.
-Trailing, 3-2, the Tolman girls tennis team got wins from their second and third doubles teams -- both in three sets -- for a 4-3 victory over Tiverton. Lindsay Jones and Anna Stone won, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, at second doubles to tie it and Kyrra Bowen and Kim Duran clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory.
-The Prout girls soccer team is off to a 5-0 start against Division II opponents this season after defeating West Warwick, 6-0. The Crusaders, who went 19-0 last season and went on to win the Division III championship, got four goals from Veronica Napoli. The Wizards, who also moved up from Division III this year, are winless so far.
-Hendricken erased a 1-0 deficit with two goals in the final 4 1/2 minutes and defeated Coventry, 2-1, in a Division I soccer match. Scott Duarte scored the game-winner on a header off a corner kick with less than two minutes to play. Teammate Jesse Paolella scored the equalizer two minutes earlier. Michael Beckman scored for the Oakers.
-Freshman goalie Nick Aquilante made six saves in his first varsity start as North Providence blanked Cranston West, 1-0, in Division II-North boys soccer. Aquilante was filling in for the Cougars' injured starting goalkeeper. Armando Gomes scored the winning goal on a header off a throw-in from Tom Pagliarini with 11 minutes to play.
-Wheeler's Sierra Olney scored 2:55 into overtime to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory over Smithfield in field hockey. Chelsea Tate assisted on the winning goal. Meghan Demars made 25 saves for the Sentinels.
-The Pilgrim field hockey team is perfect no longer, but it still improved to 6-0 after a hard-fought victory over Rocky Hill yesterday in Division II. The Patriots, who recorded five shutouts to begin the season, were finally scored upon yesterday and hung on for a 2-1 win as Sara Lonczak scored the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 42 seconds remaining. Maddie Millea scored in the first half for the Patriots. Hannah Knowles scored with seven minutes left for the Royals, who fell to 2-3.
YESTERDAY'S STARS
-Brittani Cookinham knocked in four goals, Tori Pierce had a goal and an assist and Jess Perry had two assists as Tiverton topped Cranston East, 6-1, in Division III girls soccer. Sara Larrabee made 23 saves for the 'Bolt.
-Miguel Sagastume had a hat trick and three assists as the Central boys soccer team blanked Middletown, 5-0.
-Ariana Spaziano scored both Cranston East goals in the second half as the 'Bolt edged Chariho, 2-1, in Division II field hockey.
-Jocylen Euchiverra scored four of the five goals as Mount Pleasant topped Davies, 5-2, in girls Division IV soccer.
-Junior Tricia Clark scored four goals and Annie Galvin assisted on three of them to lead the Rogers girls soccer team past Shea, 4-0.
-Andrew Bourque scored the winning goal in the last 30 seconds as Providence Country Day nipped Beaver Country Day, 2-1, in boys SENE Division I soccer.
