Yesterday’s Top Game

•Alex Verrecchia slugged a three-run homer with two outs in the top of the third inning to give the Hendricken baseball team a 5-1 lead and the Hawks went on to defeat North Kingstown, 6-2, in the winners’ bracket final of the Division I – Region IV playoffs. Milan Adams drove in the first run of the third with a one-out double. In the fourth, the Skippers plated a run to cut the lead to 5-2 and then loaded the bases with no outs. Hendricken starter David Palms was then relieved by Robert Curran, who struck out the next two batters and got the third out on a flyout to right field. Nate Izzo had three hits for the Skippers.

Best of the Rest

•South Kingstown won the winners’ bracket final in Division I – Region 3 baseball, 3-0, over Lincoln. Jackson Geary tossed a three-hit shutout, fanning nine and walking one. South Kingstown scored two unearned runs in the fourth off previously unbeaten Chris Pickering, who has allowed only one earned run all season. South Kingstown will play the Pilgrim/Lincoln winner in the final on Tuesday.

•The Burrillville baseball team broke a 2-2 tie with six runs in the top of the final inning to take an 8-3 win in the Division 2-South winners’ bracket against Prout. The Broncos used four walks, an error, a bases-loaded double by Joe Correia and an RBI single by Phil Trautwein to break the game open. With the four-hit, complete-game performance Cam LeDuc improves to 6-0.

•Nico Dellaporta singled and scored from second base on a fielding error in the top of the ninth inning as the Johnston baseball team defeated Mount St. Charles, 6-5, in the Division II – North winners’ bracket final. The error in the ninth was Mount’s sixth of the game.

Yesterday’s Stars

•Frank Little had a bases-loaded hit in the fifth inning to drive in the winning run for Chariho in its 5-2 baseball win over Warwick. Ryan Fedo had two hits, including a triple in the third inning, for the Hurricanes.

•North Providence catcher Anthony Cambio had the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning as the Cougars advanced in the losers’ bracket with a 2-1 win over East Greenwich. Jeremy Grossi spread out five hits over the seven innings and walked only two in the win. Ross Murphy singled in the first run for North Providence in the first inning.

•Ryan Westmoreland pitched a complete-game two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk as Portsmouth edged St. Raphael, 1-0, in the winners’ bracket final of the Division I – Region I baseball playoffs.
