Shamrocks are still living in fast lanes

ATTLEBORO -- Bishop Feehan never had to look over its broad shoulders in posting its third straight triumph, 94-72, over Apponequet (1-1) in a Division One Southern Conference Meet yesterday.
Michael Sullivan and Joey Sbordon won two events each and also were on two winning relay squads for the Shamrocks, who improved to 3-0. The Shamrocks, defending Southern Conference champions and second to powerhouse Weston in the state championships last year, continued their four-year old unbeaten streak against conference opponents.
There was little suspense throughout the meet, especially Lane Four, where every winner but one touched.
Sullivan, a senior headed to Notre Dame next year on a partial athletic scholarship, dominated the 50-yard freestyle, took a breather and then overwhelmed everyone else in the next event, the 100 butterfly.
Joey Sbordon topped a 1-2-3 perfomance for the Shamrocks in the 200 IM and easily vanquished other competitors in the 500 free.
But another Feehan swimmer received the most praise. "Sean Murphy was our swimmer of the meet. He had had a really good day," said Bishop Feehan second-year head coach Kyle VanDenBerghe.
Only a strong performance overall by the Lakers' Ben Nicholas, who won their only event in the 200 free, with a personal-best of 1:53.65, prevented the hosts from capturing every event.
Nicholas also rallied in the 500 free to place second and anchored second-place efforts in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Brian Bouchard, T.J. Ashley, Phil Fagundes and Chad Littlefield also contributed.
"Nicholas is a great swimmer who challenges himself all the time," Lakers head coach Brett Pacheco said. "I was very happy with how we swam," he added, noting his squad was missing one of his best swimmers due to illness.
Other Feehan swimmers mentioned by VanDenBerghe were freshmen Sam Jennings in the 200 free (knocking 12 seconds off his previous best time), Eric Burtchell in the 100 free and Rory Germain in the 100 breaststroke.
