YESTERDAY'S TOP GAME

Brooke Mauran scored in the first minute of the second overtime to give Rocky Hill a 9-8 victory over Providence Country Day in the championship game of the SENE-Division II girls lacrosse playoffs. The victory marks the third consecutive title for the Royals, who finished the season undefeated (12-1-0). Mauran's game-winner came on a 25-yard shot. The Knights made it 8-8 on a goal by Tori Hill with 1:13 remaining in regulation.

BEST OF THE REST

Brendon McDevitt broke a 2-2 tie with a three-run homer in the sixth to give North Kingstown a 5-2 victory over South Kingstown in Division I baseball. The Skippers' Cody Normand pitched a four-hitter and struck out four.

The Wheeler baseball team scored four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Will Harrington, and edged Lexington Christian, 5-4, in the quarterfinals of the NEPSAC Class D playoffs. Brandon Lane gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the first with a solo home run. Jonathan Read pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts through 6 2/3-innings. Wheeler will host Pingree in a semifinal game tomorrow at 4:15.

The Woonsocket boys tennis team posted its first win of the season, defeating Portsmouth, (8-5), 5-2, in Division III. Danny Phanhvongsa led the Villa Novans with a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles.

The North Kingstown boys tennis team improved to 13-0 with a 4-3 victory over Westerly in a match for first place in Division II-South. The Bulldogs fell to 11-2. The Skippers won just one singles match but won all three in doubles.

Bryan Rouse had 13 kills, 7 digs and 3 blocks and James Roch had 12 kills and 13 digs for Toll Gate, which beat Chariho, 3-0, in the Division I boys volleyball quarterfinals.

Bob Sherburne had 35 assists, 10 digs, Nick Hurley and Chris Colbert combined had 10 kills, 20 digs and Ben Chaffee had six kills, four digs, two blocks. The Chargers' Paul Cross had 15 kills, nine digs and Bill Fisher had 35 assists.

The Titans play winner of Friday's East Greenwich/Mount St. Charles game June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at RIC.

YESTERDAY'S STARS

Sam Hardy, Ben LeBlanc, Austin Ahlborg and Jesse Davis-Allison each scored two goals in Rocky Hill's 11-2 victory over Falmouth Academy in the SENE Division II boys lacrosse championship game.

North Providence's third doubles team of Kevin McCullom and Sean Abernathy won, 6-2, 6-0, for the Cougars' clinching point in a 4-3 tennis victory over Shea.

Deryk Faucher had four hits -- three singles and a double -- and pitched a complete game for North Providence, which beat Burrillville, 8-2, in Division II baseball.

Katelyn Spaziano went 4-for-4 with 4 RBI and Kristen Brunell went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and 4 runs to lead Davies over Hope, 22-7, in slow-pitch softball. Spaziano has 42 RBI this season and Brunell has 37 hits.

Dillon Stone had 2 hits, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs to lead the Portsmouth baseball team over Narragansett, 7-4.

Milciades Alcantara went 4-for-4 and scored four times as Central routed PCD, 12-2, in Division II baseball.

Billy Cosmopolus pitched a complete-game three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and D.B. Haseotes went 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Moses Brown baseball team to a 6-0 win over North Smithfield.

TODAY'S BEST

The quarterfinals of the Division I boys volleyball playoffs continue, with South Kingstown hosting North Kingstown at 6:30. The Rebels (10-8) beat the Skippers (9-9) twice during the regular season, by scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
