YESTERDAY'S TOP GAME
Michael Casali's single with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Ryan Raleigh with the winning run as Cranston West edged Coventry, 2-1, in Division I baseball.
The Falcons' Ted Haley tossed a complete game, including seven-plus no-hit innings, to earn the victory.
Kevin Dunn was solid on the mound for the Knotty Oakers as he pitched no-hit ball into the seventh inning.
BEST OF THE REST
North Smithfield scored in the second inning on a groundout and Andrew Soucy tossed a complete-game seven-hitter in North Smithfield's 1-0 win over Tolman in Division II baseball. Trevor Scarboro walked, took second on a fielder's choice, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Mark Constantineau's groundout.
Sophomore Tyler Baum lined a walk-off single with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Cranston East a 7-6 win over Chariho in Division I baseball. Baum's single drove in Nick Hemond, who led off the inning with a single. Hemond was also the winning pitcher. Cranston East took a 6-5 lead in the fifth on Dave Stenhouse's two-run homer. Chariho then made it 6-6 in the top of the seventh on one of three Cranston East errors.
Cranston West scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and overcame North Smithfield, 3-2, in Division II fast-pitch softball. Gianna Gates opened the inning with a single and went to third on a Casey Clarkin single. One run scored on a double steal. Katie Patterson followed with another single, driving in Clarkin. Lauren Strick singled in one run and another came in on an error for the Northmen, now 4-2. The Falcons now are 5-2 and in second place behind Smithfield.
YESTERDAY'S STARS
Natalie Simas threw the first perfect game for Toll Gate fast-pitch softball as the Titans blanked Classical, 5-0. Simas recorded four strikeouts.
Junior Skyluar Neal pitched a no-hitter and struck out 16 in Davies' 9-0 win over Classical in Division III baseball.
Frankie Ferguson scored the winning run on Jenna Buffi's hit in the bottom of the ninth as Smithfield topped Cranston East, 4-3, keeping the Sentinels undefeated (6-0) in fast-pitch softball.
Mariah Vietri scored the winning goal as Rocky Hill beat East Greenwich, 8-7, in girls lacrosse. Elisa Armstrong had 28 saves, helping the Mariners move to 5-1.
Mida McKenrick hit a two-run double to gain the victory for Moses Brown over Johnston, 3-2, in fast-pitch softball. Blair Lynch and Christina Rodriguez scored on McKenrick's hit.
East Greenwich's Greg Morris and Pilgrim's Sean Dacey each shot a 5-over-par 40s and tied for medalists honors as the Avengers won a Central Division tri-match at the West Warwick Country Club. EG finished with a 168 score, followed by Pilgrim (184) and West Warwick (186).
Eric Anthony's 3-over-par 39 helped East Providence post a 175-218 victory over Rogers in an East Division match at Newport Country Club.
J.J. Gilbane and Alex Patinkin each scored four goals and Bruce Fisher-Messier had a goal and three assists as PCD improved to 5-0 this season with a 15-5 victory over La Salle in Division I boys lacrosse.
Eric Urban tossed a complete-game five-hitter with 12 strikeouts, leading Fatima to a 6-3 victory over Hope in Division III baseball.
North Kingstown's Taylor Kenney went 4-for-4, including three singles, and knocked in two runs as the Skippers doubled-up East Providence, 12-6, in Division I baseball.
Smithfield's Justin Turner aced the 167-yard, par-3 fifth hole at Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth. Turner used a 7-iron in recording his first hole-in-one.

Unbeaten Barrington (3-0) travels to North Kingstown for a Division I girls lacrosse game against the 2-1 Skippers. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
