Seasonal flu
The last shipment has arrived: 5,000 doses of injectable vaccine and 20,000 of the nasal spray headed for primary-care doctors, who are urged to reserve injectable vaccine for people older than 65.
In addition, two public clinics for seasonal-flu vaccine have been scheduled:
•Saturday, Nov. 28, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., South County Hospital, Potter Conference Center, 100 Kenyon Ave., Wakefield. For Rhode Island adults age 19 and older. Bring insurance card. Cost without insurance: $30.
•Monday, Nov. 30, noon to 5 p.m., Twin River casino, Lincoln. For adults age 18 or older. Blue Cross and Medicare Part B accepted; all others pay $27
H1N1/swine flu
•Vaccine is now available for women who have had a baby within the past six months. Women should contact their obstetricians to get a swine-flu shot.
•Women & Infants Hospital will hold a public clinic to vaccinate pregnant women and postpartum patients against swine flu on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the VNA of Care New England, 52 Health Lane, Warwick (behind Kent Hospital). Only women who are pregnant or who gave birth after June 15 are eligible. Patients will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
•South County Hospital will hold its second swine-flu vaccination clinic for pregnant and postpartum women on Dec. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. in its Potter Conference Center. The vaccination is free. (The clinic will also offer seasonal flu vaccinations for these women but they must be covered by insurance or a $30 fee.)
•The Seekonk Board of Health will hold a swine-flu clinic for children ages 4 to 6 on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Call the board at (508) 336-2909 to schedule a required appointment.
•A vaccination clinic for Rhode Islanders in kindergarten through 12th grade who attend school out of state will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at a location to be announced. Parents must register their children for this clinic by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, by going to www.health.ri.gov. Alternative arrangements will be made for parents who cannot attend the clinic because of religious observances, provided they contact the H1N1 Information Line (222-8022) by Dec. 2.
•The state will continue vaccinating children against swine flu at schools around the state next week.
