Gourmet Boutique recall grows
01:00 AM EDT on Sunday, May 4, 2008
The Rhode Island Health Department announced yesterday that the recall of a food brand sold at Shaw’s markets has been extended to 35 products sold under the Gourmet Boutique label.
Gourmet Boutique announced the voluntary recall Friday of seven products because of possible Listeria monocytognes contamination, a bacteria that can cause serious infection, even death. The risk is highest among the elderly, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
For a list of items included in the recall, call the company’s hot line at (347) 887-0083 or go to www.fsis.usda.gov/pdf/recall_013-2008_release.pdf. Customers who bought items may return them to Shaw’s.
Symptoms of listeriosis include fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, headache, stiff neck, confusion or convulsions may occur.
