BARRINGTON –– The hottest player on the PGA Tour will be taking part in the CVS Caremark Charity Classic next month at Rhode Island Country Club.

Zach Johnson, who has won twice on tour this year, including last week’s Valero Texas Open, has agreed to take part in the event for the second time. He will partner with another tournament winner this year, Nick Watney, in the $1.55-million event to be held June 21-23.

Johnson won the Texas Open for the second year in a row Sunday, shooting a 60 in the third round. He also won the Sony Open in Hawaii. He has had four top-20s and seven top-25s in 13 starts. He is first in the FedEx Cup standings and third on the money list with $3.1 million dollars.

Johnson also played in the CVS event two years ago –– the year he won The Masters. His partner, Watney, is one of the tour’s rising stars. He won the Buick Open earlier in January and is sixth in the FedEx Cup standings. He also is sixth in driving distance with an average of 302.6 yards, 11 yards behind the leader in that department, Bubba Watson, who will return to defend his CVS title with partner Camilo Villegas.

“We’re pleased to welcome Zach and Nick to the CVS Caremark Charity Classic and are proud to add them to our impressive roster of players who are helping to raise funds for many worthy local charities,” said Eileen Howard Dunn, tournament chairwoman.

“Fans are in for a memorable experience as they watch these golf professionals in an up-close-and-personal setting.”

Nine of the 10 teams in the event now have been selected. Four will be co-ed teams, a first for the tournament. They are Morgan Pressel with Davis Love III, Juli Inkster with co-host Brad Faxon, Helen Alfredsson with co-host Billy Andrade and Natalie Gulbis with Peter Jacobsen.

Other teams are Watson and Villegas, Nick Price and Retief Goosen, Anthony Kim and Todd Hamilton, and Dana Quigley and Brett Quigley, who will be making their 11th straight appearance.

Tickets are now on sale. They are $60 for a three-day pass or $25 per day, free for children 17 and under with a ticketed adult. They can be obtained by phone at 866-CVS-9441 or by visiting cvscharityclassic.com for a mail-in application.

A special promotion is now available at CVS stores in Rhode Island, as well as select CVS in Massachusetts. It allows fans to obtain tickets by simply purchasing qualifying products.
