Two teams tied for the lead at CVS Charity Classic
01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 19, 2007
BARRINGTON -- Tournament co-host Brad Faxon and 2007 Masters champion Zach Johnson are tied for the lead of the CVS Caremark Charity Classic at 11-under-par 60 with the team of J.J. Henry and Stewart Cink.
Faxon, who is making his ninth appearance at the tournament, was excited to be paired with first-time player Zach Johnson. "We called Zach the day after the Masters," said Faxon, "and he called us back the next day to say he was in."
"I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place, "Johnson said of his decision, "what sets it a part is the charity."
Cink, who previously played in 2001 with David Toms and 2006 with Jeff Sluman, and J.J. Henry, who is making his first appearance, will be playing tomorrow in the final pairing at 9:40 a.m. with Faxon and Johnson.
In addition to the stellar golf that was played, a big topic of the day’s discussion were the matching outfits worn by the first-ever women’s team of Juli Inkster and Natalie Gulbis and the uncle-and-nephew team of Dana and Brett Quigley. With matching pink pants, the Quigleys were definitely the the day’s front-runners.
Tickets for the 2007 CVS Caremark Charity Classic are still available at the tournament admissions gate or at Will Call, located at Seekonk Speedway. Gates open at 8:00 a.m. Public Parking is also located at Seekonk Speedway, the cost is $5.00 per car with free continuous shuttles running between the parking lot and Rhode Island Country Club.
