Newport Yachting Center’s Chowder Cook-Off is Saturday

The Newport Yachting Center’s International Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off is set for Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival includes all-you-can-eat chowder and music.

Chefs will serve samples of their creations competing for Best Clam, Best Seafood and Best Creative chowder. Participating local restaurants include Castle Hill Inn & Resort, Smokehouse Café, The Mooring Seafood Kitchen and Bar, 22 Bowen’s Wine Bar & Grille, The Barking Crab, Newport Marriott and the Gas Lamp Grille, all in Newport; Atlantic Grille, Middletown; Atria Senior Living, Barrington; The Last Stand, Little Compton; Waterman Grille, RISD Caterers and Union Station Brewery, all in Providence; The Boat House, Tiverton; Stella Blues, Warren, L’Attitude Modern Eatery, Cranston, Oak Hill Tavern, North Kingstown and Homeplate from Taunton, Mass.

Three stages of musical entertainment, featuring Chiva Bus, Hanna Main, The Ravers, Hitmen, Gina Wesley & Dreamcatcher and Billy Mitchell’s Buffet Party, will perform.

A variety of children’s activities will be offered, including face painting, a seaside chalk garden and “Clam I Am,” a make-your-own-pet-clam workshop. There will be an exhibit and sale of work by McAuley House artists and a family tent with a fishing pond, prizes, crafts and interactive stations.

The ticket price is $20. Children under 12 are admitted free with a paying adult. Tickets are available through the Newport Yachting Center Box Office at (401) 846-1600 or at newportfestivals.com.
