Where to dine on New Year’s Eve

The Gibson Martini at Providence’s Local 121 is one of the classic cocktails on the menu which can be enjoyed New Year’s Eve.
Ready to party like it’s 1929? Don’t be so pessimistic. Find some good food and music and usher 2009 in with style.
New Year’s Eve Openings
The Coast Guard House Restaurant, 40 Ocean Rd., Narragansett, (401) 789-0700, hosts a New Year’s celebration with four-course dinner, Champagne toast and live entertainment. Dinner is from 5 to 10 p.m. with entertainment 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cost is $60 per person with reservations suggested.
The Bay Voyage Inn, 150 Conanicus Ave., Jamestown, (401) 423-2100, will be open on New Year’s Eve featuring a complimentary glass of Champagne with the dining menu.
Johnson & Wales Inn, 213 Taunton Ave., Seekonk, Mass., will celebrate at the Regency Ballroom from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with entertainment by Malloi, hors d’oeuvres, a dinner buffet, Champagne toast at midnight and continental breakfast at 12:30 a.m. The cost per couple is $15 and $7 per person. Overnight packages start at $29 a couple. Add one more night for $89. Also, dinner will be available at Audrey’s Restaurant from 4 to 10 p.m. The cost is $13.95 for adults and $8.95 for children. Local 121, 121 Washington St., Providence, (401) 274-2121, local121.com, offers a five-course fixed-price menu for $60 per person which includes admission to the New Year’s Eve party in the Speakeasy. A sampling of the menu includes Jonah Crab and corn souffle, rack of lamb, New Hampshire Petite Filet of Venison, grilled Maine lobster, and dark-chocolate terrine with creme fraiche mousse. Reservations accepted from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
The Pines, 1204 Pound Hill Rd. North Smithfield, (401) 766-2122, serves New Year’s Eve beginning at 4 p.m. from noon to 4:30 p.m.
Cucina Mista, 455 Main St., East Greenwich, (401) 398-2900, cucinamista.com, is accepting New Year’s Eve reservations. The menu includes pasta, seafood, salads, grilled pizza and more.
Two Forty Two Restaurant & Lounge, 242 Atwells Ave., (401) 453-0242, has a menu that includes appetizers of escargot, pan seared foie gras; pastas of Tagliolini con Tartufo and ricotta ravioli with fresh herbs in lemon butter; and entrees of surf and turf, seared tuna with eggplant carponata, braised short ribs with soft polenta and monkfish, lobster and prosciutto.
Persimmon, 31 State St., Bristol, (401) 254-7474, www.persimmonbristol.com, rings in the New Year with aspecial four-course menu for $75 per person. Choices will be offered within each course. Highlights include smoked salmon with four caviars, carnaroli risotto with sweet Georgian rock shrimp, slow-roasted venison with sweet potato agnolotti and caramelized chestnuts, and frozen lemon parfait with spiced cream and almond praline.
Octagon, 625 North Rd., Groton, Conn., (860) 326-0360, serves 5:30 to 10 p.m. including appetizers such as lobster shepherd’s pie with truffled potato puree and roasted corn butter; tuna sashimi with cactus salad and saba; and jumbo stuffed-mushroom caps. Entrees include grilled lobster tails with flavors of paella and a 16-ounce bone-in tenderloin of beef rubbed with espresso.
Garden Grille, 727 East Ave., Pawtucket, (401) 726-2826, is open New Year’s Eve until 9 p.m.
Il Fornello, 16 Josephine St., North Providence, (401) 722-5599, ilfornellori.com, accepts reservations.
The Lobster Pot, 119-121 Hope St. (Route 114), Bristol, (401) 253-9100, will be open for New Year’s Eve dining all day serving the full menu plus specials.
New Rivers, 7 Steeple St., Providence, (401) 751-0350, will serve specials from chef de cuisine Beau Vestal. Reserve.
Troup House Restaurant, 477 Broadway, Providence, (401) 487-1636, hosts a gala New Year’s Eve cocktail reception and buffet dinner with music and dancing including passed hors d’oeuvres. There will also be a cocktail and Champagne toast at midnight. Tickets are $175 per couple.
DownCity @ 50 Weybosset, Providence, (401) 331-9219, offers a special New Year’s Eve menu “What Happens at DownCity, stays at DownCity.” Menu items from chef Kristin Monmaney and sous chef Travis Lawton can be ordered either à la carte or $59.50 for four courses.
Gracie’s, 194 Washington St., Providence, (401) 272-7811, turns into a red-velvet lounge for New Year’s Eve, starting at 8 p.m. The menu includes a caviar bar, local Plum Point oysters, leg of lamb and other classic fare. The cost is $150 per guest and includes tax, gratuity and Champagne. There will be big-band sounds for dancing and merriment.
Carrie’s Restaurant, 1035 Douglas Ave., (401) 831-0066, serves New Year’s Eve and features three-pound lobsters prepared in a variety of ways and also available for takeout. Reservations suggested.
Sardella’s Restaurant, 30 Memorial Blvd. West, Newport, (401) 849-6312, serves New Year’s Eve from 5 to 10 p.m. with a two-for-one special menu, with two dinners and a bottle of wine for $24.
La Laiterie at Farmstead, 188 Wayland Ave., Providence, (401) 274-7177, offers a five-course meal including a braised lobster dish and scallops. The cost is $75 per person, exclusive of tax, gratuity or beverages (with exception to first-course bubbly). There will be two seatings at 7p.m. and at 9 p.m. Reserve.
CAV, 14 Imperial Place, Providence, (401) 751-9164, welcomes guests for lunch and dinner with either the regular menu or a festive New Year’s Eve fixed-price menu with many choices from lobster to filet mignon. It includes a bottle of wine per couple. Music runs from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. with Lonnie Gasperini.
The Edgewood Café, 1864 Broad St., Cranston, (401) 383-5550, offers a special New Year’s Eve fixed-price menu with appetizer, salad, entree, dessert, and corking fee (BYOB) for $35 per person. There will be two seatings at 5:30 and at 8:30 p.m. by reservation only. Calamari, crab cakes, baked stuffed lobster, baked tortellini, grilled New York sirloin and banana’s Mondale are on the menu.
Mario’s Risto Bar, 20 Haven Ave., Cranston, (401) 942-1009, serves the regular menu on New Year’s Eve and specials.
NYLO, 400 Knight St., Warwick, (401) 734-4460, nylohotels.com/warwick, has a getaway package for $250 per couple that includes accommodations, gala buffet in The Loft, entertainment by Lupe Aguilar with DJ “Fred da Great,” a Champagne toast at midnight and a European-style continental breakfast the following morning. Dinner buffet is $75.
Pinelli’s Café at Night, 701 Quaker Lane, West Warwick, (401) 821-8828, starts New Year’s Eve with a complimentary tasting of lentil soup for good luck. Featured specials include Champagne Chicken.
Rodizio Steakhouse, 1195 Douglas Ave., North Providence, (401) 354-8411, serves on New Year’s Eve from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. with a DJ and dancing.
Café Paragon, 234 Thayer St., (401) 331-6200, has a New Year’s Eve party 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. for $25 which includes a three-course meal, party favors and Champagne toast. The regular menu will be served until 9 p.m.
Gian Carlo’s Ristorante, 153 Hamlet Ave., Woonsocket, (401) 765-3711, serves on New Year’s Eve from 4 to 11 p.m. with specials and the regular menu.
Sidebar and Grille, 127 Dorrance St., Providence, (401) 421-7200, offers a five-course dinner on New Year’s Eve for $90. It includes a glass of Champagne and live entertainment from the John Badessa Trio.
Andrew’s Bistro, 3755 Mendon Rd, Cumberland, (401) 658-1515, andrewsbistro.com, offers a five-course dinner for $75 (excluding beverages, taxes and gratuity) and live entertainment for New Year’s Eve. The first seating is at 5 p.m. Reserve.
Via Roma, 308 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 331-1717, has a gala dinner dance starting at 7 p.m. with a multi-course dinner including filet mignon and dessert. There is live entertainment and the cost is $59.95 per person and valet parking is included.
Chez Pascal, 960 Hope St., Providence, (401) 421-4422, kicks off with a four-course tasting menu with choices within each course for $78 per person. Highlights include Sunchoke Bisque with Celery Root, chilled Lobster Flan and Lemon Oil, grilled marinated loin of New Hampshire Red Deer with Glazed Endive, Chestnuts, and Butternut Squash.
