World of Flavors Competition Sunday in Providence

The World of Flavors Competition is set for Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Bank of America Skating Center at Kennedy Plaza, Providence. More than 30 local restaurants will be serving samples to guests and competing for a prize package in one of four categories.
In the Americana category are: Blaze Eastside, The Capital Grille, Cortland Place, DeWolf Tavern, Hemenway’s Oyster Bar and Grill, Temple Downtown, Texas Roadhouse and United BBQ. Asian and Indian restaurants include: 3 Steeple Street, Ebisu, India, Kabob & Curry, Ken Wok, Twist and Waterplace Restaurant and Lounge. European and Mediterranean entrants are: Cafe Paragon, CAV, Efendi’s, Federal Hill Pizza, La Creperie, North End Cafe, RiRa the Irish Pub, Rosinha’s and The Melting Pot. From South of the Border are: Cactus Grille, Don Jose Tequila’s, Los Andes, Machupicchu Restaurante, Marley’s, Rue Bis and Tortilla Flats.
The event is the brainchild of Seth Resler and his QuickWhatsUp.com. It will hosted by Shawn Tempesta of Fox’s Rhode Show and features music by Spogga. The date was chosen to tie in with Providence Restaurant Weeks which began the same day and run to July 25.
The restaurants will be competing for a prize package worth $15,000, including appearances on the Rhode Show, commercials on Fox Providence and WPRI Channel 12, commercials on 95.5 WBRU and many professional services.
The event will also feature local beverages, including wines from the vineyards of the Coastal Wine Trail (Newport Vineyards, Sakonnet Vineyard,Greenvale Vineyard, Langworthy Farm Winery, Running Brook Vineyards, Westport Rivers Winery and Truro Vineyards) as well as Narragansett Beer, Newport Storm Beer, Granny Squibb Iced Tea and B-Low Energy Drink from Twin River. The After-Party will be held at Aqua in the Marriott Downtown hotel.
