Broad Street International Food Tour
01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Want to take an international food tour without air fare or travel plans? The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is introducing the three-hour Broad Street International Food Tour. It begins tonight and runs on Wednesdays for 10 weeks. The experience will change every week, depending on the destination.
Tonight, Colombia will be featured at La Sorpresa, 498 Broad St., Central Falls.
Each food tour includes a 6 p.m. river cruise aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer. Meet at 1420 Broad St. and venture out along the Valley Falls marsh area viewing wildlife and natural settings hidden in the densely populated area.
At 7 p.m., an international meal will be served. This week’s feature at La Sorpresa is a beef platter. At 8 p.m., it’s time to meet the chef. You can watch a demonstration and learn about the cuisine and ingredients and maybe even take home a recipe.
The cost is $30, excluding gratuity. Those who sign up for all 10 events will save $75. Dinner and demonstration only costs $25.
Next week on June 18, Portuguese cuisine is highlighted at Serra Da Estrela, 168 Broad St., Cumberland. A pork dish will be the featured entrée.
On June, 25, the all-American favorite will be served when Olly’s Pizza will be featured at 148 Broad St., Pawtucket, with make and bake your own pizza. On July 9, Mexican cuisine will star with La Casa Del Pueblo, 863 Broad St., Central Falls, and a beef platter. La Casona, 804 Broad St., Central Falls, highlights Colombian cuisine with a chicken platter on July 16. Portuguese cooking from Valley Park Cervejaria and Marisqueira, 17 Mill St., Cumberland, will feature a seafood dish on July 23. China Inn, 285 Main St., Pawtucket, will do a Chinese chicken platter for July 30. The Tropical Restaurant, 855 Broad St., Central Falls, will demonstrate its Cape Verde cuisine with a fish dish on Aug. 6. Aug. 13 highlights Portuguese food with Beirao Café Restaurant, 1374 Broad St., Central Falls, and a beef dish.
