Nancy Sepe has opened Nancy’s Fancies Cakes at 294 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 421-2253. This bakery and cupcake café specializes in cakes built like designer handbags and shoes. Specialties include a daily jumbo cupcake, homemade biscotti and decorated cookies in whimsical shapes including those of shoes.

Langworthy Farm Winery, Route 1A, Westerly, holds a monthly wine dinner tonight from 6 to 8 with chefs from the Shelter Harbor Inn preparing a three-course dinner paired with Langworthy Farm Wines. The cost is $35. To reserve, call (401) 322-7791.

Blackstone Caterers, hosts the second of its “Eat Local and Drink Global” Farmers’ Market series Friday in Middletown from 6:30 to 9 p.m., featuring a vegetarian dinner with wine pairings. The cost is $55. Reserve at (401) 848-2030.

Chef Russ Zito will offer a cooking demonstration at Venda Ravioli, 275 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 421-9105, on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in conjunction with the Cheese of the Month Club. The featured cheese is Italian roasted ricotta.

Making Peace with Food & Your Body, a program about finding one’s natural body weight without dieting, is set for Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at All That Matters in Wakefield. The program is led by Barbara Holtzman, author of Conscious Eating, Conscious Living; A Practical Guide to Making Peace with Food & Your Body. The Rhode Island Chef’s Benefit Dinner for the James Beard Foundation will be Monday at L’Epicureo in the Hotel Providence, 311 Westminster St. Tickets are $100 for members and $125 for non-members. Seven Rhode Island chefs will be hosting the dinner. The courses and chefs are: hamachi with slow-cooked beet salad by Joe Hafner of Gracies; roasted duck with wild rice risotto by Derek Wagner of Nicks on Broadway; striped bass with a fava bean /potato purée from Jonathan Cambra of Castle Hill Inn & Resort; Colorado lamb loin from Richard Allaire of L’Epicureo; cheese course from Matt Jennings of Farmstead; and carrot ginger cake from Chris Carruba of Trattoria Simpatico. Seasonal canapés will be offered by Beau Vestal of New Rivers and Kevin Gaudreau of Ruth’s Chris Steak House. A wine or beer will be served with each course. McCormick & Schmick’s, Biltmore Hotel, Providence, offers $10.40 dinner specials on select menu items on tax day, Tuesday. Guests who visit the restaurant on that day will also receive a dining certificate for $10.40 off their next dinner.

Spezia Foodsmiths, 286 Atwells Ave., (401) 277-3942, will host a cheese and wine tasting on Wednesday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. The cheeses featured include a 1-year-old Grafton Village Cheddar, 6-month-old Greenbay Cheddar and Milwaukee-made sweet provolone. They will be paired with wines from Newport Vineyards. The cost is $19.95.

The Berean Baptist Church, 474 Chapel St., Harrisville, hosts an all-you-can-eat Spaghetti Supper on Saturday, April 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for children 5 to 12 and children under 5, eat free.

Siena, 238 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 521-3311, will host a five-course wine dinner Thursday, April 26, at 6:45. Items from the new spring menu will be offered, such as brasato, braised short ribs served over mashed potatoes, and garganella con tartufo. The cost is $75.

St. Sahag and St. Mesrob Armenian Church Habitat for Humanity — Armenia, hosts a book signing and tasting on Monday at 7 p.m. at the church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence. Barbara Ghazarian will read and sign her books, Simply Amerenian – Naturally Healthy Ethnic Cooking Made Easy and Descendents of Noah: Stories of Armenian Apostolic Faith and Heritage. Classes

Jonathan Cambra, executive chef at Castle Hill Inn & Resort, Newport, will be the featured chef at the Sakonnet Master Chefs Series on Sunday, April 22, at the Sakonnet Vineyard, Little Compton. Surfin Tacos, 344 Main St., Wakefield, (401) 792-8226, will celebrate its fourth anniversary by offering a buy one Southern California-style taco and get one taco free on Tuesdays in April.

Octagon, 625 North Rd., Groton, Conn., (860) 326-0360, and executive chef Steve Rosen and chef de cuisine Christopher Cohen will offer locally-raised roast rack of spring lamb with warm cucumber and mint salad complete with goat cheese fritters as the April specialty.

Spezia Foodsmiths, 286 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 277-3942, offers an olive oil tasting bar for guests to sample flavor and texture profiles of extra virgin olive oils from around the world. The products are available for purchase. In addition, one of the extra virgin olive oils featured is chef Walter Potenza’s family owned Leccino varietal which grows in the town of Varano in the Abruzzo region. The two-ton harvest production is of limited quantity, and the 2006 is available at $14.99.

Greenvale Vineyards will host the Old time Country and Celtic duo, Two Old Friends, on Friday, April 20, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Stable/Tasting Room, 582 Wapping Rd., Portsmouth.
