This week and weekend
St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown, (401) 423-1421, this weekend holds its annual Christmas Festival featuring the Taste & See Cafe serving homemade soups, chowders, sausage and peppers, hot dogs and sweets. There will also be greenery arrangements, gift baskets, a white elephant table, baked goods and hand-crafted items. The hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
The Wintertime Farmers’ Market at Hope Artiste Village will be held in Pawtucket every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1005 Main St. It includes Aquidneck Farms, Barden Family Orchards, Cutie Pies, Hill Orchards, Jack’s Snacks, Marcia’s Chutneys, Matunuck Oyster Farm, Mello Family Farm, Narragansett Creamery, New Harvest Coffee Roasters, Ocean State Chocolates, Olga’s Cup & Saucer, Pat’s Pastured Poultry, Red Planet Vegetables, Scratch Farm, Seven Stars Bakery, Simmons Farm, Whispering Elms Farm, Wishing Stone Farm and Besto Pesto. Farm Fresh R.I. and Local 121 host Tableland documentary screening and buffet dinner tonight. The dinner costs $12 and is at 6:30 p.m. in the speakeasy at 121 Washington St., Providence. The documentary screening starts at 7 p.m. It is free.
Store Four, 673 Kingstown Rd., Wakefield, (401) 783-7388, has an open house tomorrow from 5 to 9 p.m. Focaccia will be offered with wine samples from Wakefield Liquors staff. Exclusive Italian Christmas sweets, including Maria Grammatico Torrone, will be sampled and Linda Beaulieu will be on hand to autograph The Providence and Rhode Island Cookbook.

Rudy’s Restaurant at Laurel Lane Country Club, 309 Laurel Lane, West Kingston, (401) 783-3844, laurellanecountry club.com, is now open Friday, Saturday and Sunday serving a full dinner menu as well as free hors d’oeuvres. Hours are Friday and Saturday 4 to 8 p.m. (Prime Rib is special for $13.95 on Saturday) and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. with a football buffet for $4.95.
Pinelli’s Café At Night, 701 Quaker Lane, West Warwick, (401) 821-8828, serves a Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner at the BYOB restaurant Monday, Dec. 15, starting at 5:45 p.m. The menu includes snail salad, baccala salad, fried smelts, calamari, shrimp, seafood pasta, baked stuffed shrimp, scallops, stuffies and baked fish. The price is $24.95 and reservations are suggested.
Local 121, 121 Washington St., Providence, (401) 274-2121, serves lunch Tuesday-Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. throughout the holiday season with new items including a Bomster Scallop Po’ Boy, Long Island Duck Confit, Poached Pear Salad and Molasses Braised Vermont Brisket.
Sardella’s Restaurant, 30 Memorial Blvd. West, Newport, (401) 849-6312, tomorrow begins offering Thursday Tuscan Steak Night, a dinner for $19.95. The first course includes choice of soup of the day or salad. Second course is a 14-ounce sirloin with a side of potatoes and dessert is a chocolate dipped biscotti.
Gracie’s, 194 Washington St., Providence, (401) 272-7811, graciesprov.com, offers a children’s three-course menu at $20 during Trinity Rep’s run of A Christmas Carol. Choices include entrées of tomato soup with cheddar grilled cheese, Atlantic salmon, filet mignon and kids pasta with butter and cheese. Desserts include banana split, crème brûlée or triple chocolate torte. The menu is offered through the end of the month Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m.
Pane e Vino, 365 Atwells Ave., Providence, (401) 223-2230, offers its La Vigilia menu for three days running from Monday, Dec. 22, to Wednesday, Dec. 24, as they will be serving on Christmas Eve, opening at noon for lunch. The restaurant will also open for lunch on Friday, Dec. 19.

CAV, 14 Imperial Place, Providence, hosts a holiday book signing event with Tracy Ann Young, author of Girls Night Out Chronicles, on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A team from Johnson & Wales University competed in the 2008 IKA Culinary Olympics held in Erfurt, Germany. Chef Robert Zelinski won a silver medal for a harvest-theme salt dough sculpture. Chef Frank Terranova won a bronze medal for a cold food presentation. Student Daniel Schofisch won a silver medal for his cold food presentation. The team, which included manager master chef Rainer Hienerwadel, went on to compete at the Society Philanthropique annual New York Food Show at which Hienerwadel won a gold in the hors d’oeuvres category. Terranova and Schofisch each received gold medals in the seafood category, and Zelinski won a gold in the decorative piece category.
