The Class of 2009
The Carter School, at Meeting Street School, will hold commencement for two graduates at 10 a.m. at the Providence campus. The graduates are Rebekah Hammersley and Luke Marden. Narragansett High School will hold commencement for 112 graduates at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Rhode Island’s Ryan Center. Hillary Curley, who will attend the University of Southern California in the fall, is the valedictorian. Maxwell Rittner, who is headed to Boston College, is the salutatorian. Ponaganset High School will hold commencement for more than 200 graduates at 6 p.m. in front of the school. Joseph Vallee, who will attend the University of Rhode Island in the fall, is the valedictorian, and Nathan Leveille, who is going to Hillsdale College, in Hillsdale, Mich., is the salutatorian. Portsmouth High School will hold commencement for about 220 graduates at 6 p.m. on John F. Kennedy Memorial Field at the school. Andrew Chaplin and Marcus Josefsson have been selected by students and faculty to deliver the graduation speeches. Rhode Island School for the Deaf will hand out diplomas to seven students in a ceremony at the school, in Providence, at 7 p.m. Toni Vollaro is the valedictorian, and Christen Houde is the salutatorian. Rogers High School, Newport, will hold commencement for about 118 graduates at 6 p.m. in the courtyard at the school. Michael Kelley, who is headed to Brown University in the fall, is the valedictorian, and Fiona Byrne, who is going to the University of Vermont, is the salutatorian. U.S. Sen. Jack Reed is the commencement speaker. Scituate High School will hold commencement for about 117 graduates at 6:30 p.m. at the North Scituate village gazebo. If it rains, the ceremony will be held at the school. Keri Mouradjian, who is attending Boston University in the fall, is the valedictorian, and Alaina Carnevale, who is going to Rhode Island College, is the salutatorian. The senior class logged more than 3,000 hours of community service, and as part of senior projects many students held successful fundraisers, said George Tracy, director of guidance. As her project, Justine Simone raised about $8,000 for an orphanage. Tolman High School, in Pawtucket, will hold commencement for about 220 graduates in the school auditorium at 6 p.m. Brett Dejesus, who will attend Brown University, is the valedictorian. West Warwick High School will hold commencement for about 200 graduates at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Providence. Nermeen El-Araby is the valedictorian and she will attend the University of Rhode Island. Monica Johnson is the salutatorian and is going to the University of Vermont. Most notable about this graduating class is that five seniors have been accepted into a six-year pharmacy school program, with four going to URI and one student to Wingate University in North Carolina. Woonsocket High School will hold commencement for about 359 graduates at 4 p.m. on Barry Field at the school. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the gym. Laura Moynihan, who will major in medicine at Brown University starting in the fall, is the valedictorian. Erin Staples, who will study kinesiology at Quinnipiac University, is the salutatorian.
