PROVIDENCE — A memory pack was temporarily lost and another was locked in a school polling place Tuesday night but the Board of Canvassers said that the election results were not affected.

Laurence K. Flynn, executive secretary of the Board of Canvassers, said a memory pack, which electronically records the vote tallies, was placed in the wrong bag at the Nathanael Greene Middle School on Tuesday and discovered yesterday morning.

The pack contained votes cast in the 12th Ward, which includes House Dist. 7, represented by Rep. Joanne M. Giannini, who did not have an opponent, and Senate District 1, represented by Sen. Maryellen Goodwin, who handily defeated challenger Kevin McKenna for the party nomination.

“Fortunately,” Flynn said, “no votes were cast at that particular polling place. It was a very low turnout. No harm was done.”

Another memory pack was accidentally locked overnight in the Harry Kizirian Elementary School on Camden Avenue .

“I left my home early this morning and picked it up myself,” Flynn said yesterday. “The poll worker put it in the wrong box. It did not affect any races. The race in Smith Hill was long decided.”

Flynn said that Goodwin received 68 percent of the votes to McKenna’s 31 percent.
