More candidates file for General Assembly
01:00 AM EDT on Friday, June 27, 2008
Several candidates were not included in a list in yesterday’s Journal of people who filed papers to run for the General Assembly. The Journal’s list was based on the secretary of state’s online list at the close of business Wednesday.
The following were added to the secretary of state’s list yesterday:
In the Senate, Democrat James C. Sheehan is seeking reelection in District 36. Also, Elaina Goldstein is running as a Republican in District 3; Kofua Kulah as a Republican in District 5; John Stephen Vitkevich as an independent in District 11; David B. Bibeault as a Republican in District 22; and Jonathan R. Osborne as an independent in District 34.
In the House, Republican Damien Baldino is running in District 13; Republican Ann Marie Marshall in District 31; Democrat Michael Rice in District 35; Democrat Scott Pollard in District 40; Republican Jennifer L. Hirons in District 44; Democrat Patrick J. Sullivan in District 52; Republican John S. English in District 53; Democrat Anthony V. Arico Jr. in District 66; and Republican Addison W. Closson in District 72.
Also, the party affiliation for Maryann A. Gobern Mathews, running in House District 63, was incorrect. She is an independent.
The names of three candidates were also misspelled in The Journal list; they are Democrat Neil James Chionchio, in House District 6; independent Christopher C. Buffum, in House District 33; and Democrat Michael J. Pinga, in Senate District 9.
More than 250 candidates filed by Wednesday’s deadline for the combined 113 state Senate and House seats. Candidates have until July 11 at 4 p.m. to turn their papers in to local boards of canvassers with the required number of signatures –– 50 for House members and 100 for Senate members.
