Providence Journal reporter Tracy Breton is 1 of 10 journalists from the United States and South Africa selected for a Rosalynn Carter Fellowship for Mental Health Journalism.
The fellowship program, named for the former first lady, provides a $10,000 grant to study and report on issues in the mental health field over a year.
Breton, a member of The Journal's investigative team, has covered a wide variety of stories in a career spanning more than 30 years, with a special focus on legal issues. In recent months, she has reported extensively on elderly abuse and neglect.
For the fellowship program, Breton will examine the abuse, neglect and exploitation of Rhode Island elderly people with mental health issues, and how the state's system to deal with abuse compares with those of other states.
If you have a story about elderly abuse, exploitation, self-neglect or guardianship issues in Rhode Island that you would like to share with Breton, you can contact her by e-mail at tbreton@projo.com or by phone at (401) 277-7362.
