The demolition of the old Jamestown Bridge

Built in 1940 for $3 million, the center span of the old Jamestown Bridge came crashing down into Narragansett Bay on April 18, 2006, as part of a $19.5-million demolition project that used 75 pounds of explosives on the center span.

Old Jamestown bridge falls into history
NARRAGANSETT -- If you blinked, you missed it. And nobody wanted to miss it. Hundreds stood on the beach of the University of Rhode Island's Bay campus this morning, staring east toward the doomed Jamestown bridge, while the strong wind made their eyes water.

Spectators' review: 'Pretty cool'
NARRAGANSETT -- Esther Eberly of South Kingstown had a front row seat for the explosion today. She got there early and staked out a spot for her beach chair.
