Concerts and a special garden display at the Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show are among the commemorations scheduled for this weekend and next of the deadly fire two years ago at The Station nightclub in West Warwick.
Also coming up is the debut, on the big screen at Woonsocket's Stadium Theatre and on Cox Cable, of the film version of a play by Nick O'Neill, the fire's youngest victim, about a teenager who dies and returns as an angel to help those he's left behind.
Here's the schedule:
STATION FIRE EVENTS
THURSDAY
Nocturnal Sun, Beyond Blonde, Heather Rose, Delphine, Satyr (of Slugworth), Japonica, Dan Pepin (of Let Down) and The Jena Campaign, rock, Cats, 530 Broadway, Pawtucket. 722-0150. 8 pm-1 am. $5. Benefit for The Station Fire Memorial.
Wreath Dedication Ceremony, State House Rotunda, 82 Smith St., Providence. 222-8290. Governor Carcieri will lead a remembrance ceremony and be presented a wreath by Senate President Joseph and Speaker of the House William Murphy to commemorate those affected by the fire. The Rev. John Holt will conduct a reading. 6 pm.
THURSDAY-SUNDAY
Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show, Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin St., Providence. Includes garden of remembrance and healing for Station Fire victims. Thu-Sat 10 am-9 pm, Sun 10 am-6 pm. $16, $14 seniors and students, $7 for children 7-12.
SUNDAY
Tom Conte and others, rock, Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Rd., West Greenwich. 397-9491, 397-3700. 1-4 pm. $25 includes buffet. Benefit for The Station Family Fund.
The Station Fire Memorial Foundation Memorial Service, with Governor Carcieri, at the site of the Station fire, Cowesett Avenue, West Warwick. 4:30-5:30 pm. Service culminates in lighting of the heart made by survivor Paul Bertolo, unveiled at last year's ceremony. No parking at the site, with the exception of limited first-come, first-served handicapped parking. Free parking in lower lot of West Warwick Civic Center, Factory Street; buses will run to and from the site from 3:30 to 7 pm.
They Walk Among Us, Stadium Theatre, Monument Square, Woonsocket. 762-4545. Premiere of film version of play by Nick O'Neill, youngest Station fire victim. Also premiering: 41, short film about strange and miraculous signs people have experienced since the fire. 7 pm. $10; all proceeds benefit Nick O'Neill-Encore Repertory Company Scholarship Fund. The film will also be shown at 8 pm on Cox Cable Channel 70.
MONDAY
