WEST WARWICK -- The Crompton Veterans Organization and the Democratic Town Committee are cosponsoring a blood drive Sunday to coincide with the third anniversary of The Station nightclub fire. This is the second year the groups have sought blood donations for the Providence-based Rhode Island Blood Center. Last year, 23 pints were donated, said Democratic Town Council member Peter F. Calci Jr., who is helping to publicize the event. The blood drive will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Crompton Veterans Organization, 37 Hepburn St. Calci said donors will be treated to a breakfast of eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh no less than 110 pounds and not have given blood during the last eight weeks, Calci said. Those with eligibility questions should call the Rhode Island Blood Center at (401) 453-8307. The Station nightclub burned on Feb. 20, 2003, leaving 100 people dead and more than 200 injured. |
