The criminal investigation into the fire that killed 100 at The Station nightclub in West Warwick is about half completed, a spokesman for Atty. Gen. Patrick Lynch said yesterday.
As the six-month anniversary of the Feb. 20 blaze approaches, a grand jury continues its probe to determine whether anyone will be indicted in connection with the deadliest fire in Rhode Island history.
"The investigation that began six months ago is closer to the end than it is to the beginning," Mike Healey, a spokesman for Atty. Gen. Patrick Lynch, said yesterday.
Healey confirmed that the investigation is about half finished. "It's moving along but there is still a lot of work to do," he said.
Healey would not comment on any possible charges nor specify when the investigation would conclude.
"Attorney General Lynch has tried hard not to be giving time frames and deadlines because he knows facts drive the process," Healey said. "An investigation with the scope of this one, he knew from beginning it would take a good deal of time and it has."
Healey added: "The attorney general recognizes that everyone -- the victims and the surviving family members -- want answers. The best way to go about our business is to stick to facts and evidence."
