The band Great White launched a 40-city tour last night in Sterling,
Colo., to raise money for victims' families and survivors of The Station
nightclub fire.
Pyrotechnics set off by the band at the beginning of its show Feb. 20
started the devastating fire that killed 100 people, including band
guitarist Ty Longley. About 200 more people were injured in the worst
fire in Rhode Island's history.
Promoter Todd Allen said about 900 people turned out for the Colorado
show last night. He said the band marked the Rhode Island tragedy with
100 seconds of silence early in their 70-minute set.
"There's not a minute that goes by where this doesn't, you know, you
don't think about this, how can you not?" lead singer Jack Russell said
yesterday on CBS' The Early Show.
The band is scheduled to play the second show on the tour tonight in
Colorado Springs, Colo.
The band, along with the owners of the club, event promoters and product
manufacturers have been named in civil lawsuits stemming from the West
Warwick blaze. A grand jury is investigating the possibility of criminal
charges.
