Joseph Kinan, the last survivor of The Station nightclub fire to remain
hospitalized, was discharged today and transferred to a rehabilitation
center.
Kinan, 34, of Canton, Mass., was one of about 200 people injured in the
Feb. 20 blaze at the West Warwick club, which killed 100 people.
He was released this afternoon from Massachusetts General Hospital in
Boston, said Christine Johanson, a hospital spokeswoman.
Kinan's family said he has been moved to a rehabilitation center in
Boston to continue his recovery from his injuries.
Kinan suffered burns on his arms and over the upper half of his body. He
lost his fingers and parts of his nose and ears in the fire. He
underwent more than 30 surgeries while he was hospitalized.
Kinan's attorneys have said his medical bills may top $4 million. The
lawyers originally filed a federal lawsuit on his behalf. But last month
they closed the suit, saying they planned to refile it along with scores
of other suits stemming from the deadly blaze.
